2 questions?
Anyone every used Youtube as a source of free tips/content to your mailing list.
I.e...check out this cool golf tip-leading them to a video on Youtube.

Secondly, is general Youtube free to the public? I.e. could I upload a video onto my web page and send my list there rather..that way there will be no other distracting links for them to click.

When you embed the code on your website you can specify no other videos...

Many people do something along those lines.

Just so we are clear on this topic:

It is not ok for you to download a video from youtube and upload it to your site. If you want a youtube video on your site - use the embed code. You can find the embed code under the video on youtube.

Certain publishers on youtube have disabled external embedding - that means they do not want you using their video on your website.

In your post your using the word "upload" like your going to be downloading the video from youtube, then uploading it to your server and using your own video player.

If this is not what you meant, then use the word "embed" instead of "upload."

    Yes and yes.

You can send your list to YouTube and / or a video on your site.

You can also use a video that someone else made on your site and send people to your site to see the video made by someone else.

For instance, if you find a very informative video showing a certain golf technique, you can embed it on your site and then send a message to your list letting them know that you have a video for them to check out.

Just don't say that you made the video if you didn't. But again, yes you can use a video that you didn't make.

The risk you run by using a video that you didn't make is that the viewers can click to see the video at YouTube and leave your site and go to the other person's YouTube channel.

If the other person has a "call to action" on their video with a URL to check out, your people could follow the URL over to the other person's site.

The best option is to make the video yourself and put it on your site. At the end of your video, have your viewers do something on your site like Tweet a post.

This way, not only are you keeping them on your site, but you are taking them from the email to your site and having them do something else that promotes your site.

They get to see the cool video and you get to have them do something for you.

As long as you don't say it's your content, you more than welcome to share it.

Hi Pete, if you're going to be embedding Youtube videos on your blog make sure you use the free plugin below, this way your visitors won't be able to click through to Youtube from the video.
