Is my tone too harsh?

In previous threads in this frum and others people have taken things I've said as insults. I like like to say things like "get to work" or "go earn an income" at the end of my articles on my site, in products that I create, and when I start a thread. This is my push for people to take action.
In this business the turnover rate is so high that as soon as you mention online business or internet marketing in a group of ten or more, you have someone chime in about how "I tried it for a year and didn't make a cent. It's all a big scam!"
I'll be the first to admit that this business is much harder than it sounds when explained by someone who has had some success. But we (OK, I) tend to be our own worst enemies in internet marketing because we fail to take action. Some of you reading this right now should be working on your business but you decided to skim the forum and read what other people are talking about. Now, before I get others yelling at me, being here is a great thing for all of us. I have learned so much by reading these posts, and I hope I've been able to help a lot of others with my replies and post. But the bottom line is that I have spent time malingering in the forums and occasionally needed someone or something to get me working again. That is what I try to provide with my comments. Motivation.
So, to everyone that has gotten upset with me for those comments, I hope this explains everything. Poor people aren't evil. People that are out of work right now aren't lazy. If you try IM and it doesn't work for you, you aren't stupid. But if you have something you should be working on right now that will help your business, CLOSE THIS TAB IN YOUR BROWSER AND GET TOO WORK!!!...and if I can do anything to help PM me.

To answer this question, "Is my tone too harsh?"

...I don't think you were too harsh in this post, but that's the only one I can comment on. I can see where a few might not like the part you typed in caps. Some don't like being told what to do, no matter how you preface it.

You seem like a nice guy though, based on your offer to help others. Perhaps you just need to give folks around here time to get to know you and your style of communicating.

Thanks Dennis, I will ease people into it. Good advice and I really appreciate the feedback.

I don't think you're being too harsh here. I agree with Dennis to give time for people to know your style and how you communicate. It also depends on how people will interpret what you say. You seem like a straight forward person and just want to relay your message loud and clear without having to beat around the bush. Some people are cool with that, some aren't.

I definitely do not think you are being too harsh.

Sounds like we are like-minded. I think all my success goes down to the fact that I am self motivated.

"Get to Work!" is something I tell myself everyday!

Harsh? I think John Reese's ending words (maybe signature) in every post is:

    "Get Back To Work!"

    Harsh enough?

I have thousands of subscribers to a list called "Internet Marketing for Losers". I remind my readers a few times a week why they are losers and then proceed to tell them how to turn it around.

I have only had one person email me to tell me that he thinks I am a jerk and that I should tone down my emails. I responded back to him explaining that he was not only a loser, but also an irritating nansy pansy.

Telling people to "get back to work" is hardly harsh in my book. Now if you ended your emails with "I hope you get the plague and die", that may be crossing the line a little.

Love it. I wish I could send some advice to your list on how to become less "loserly" I'm sure I could generate quite a few emails to you that say essentially "man, don't let this guy ever email to me again, I was so depressed by being called a loser, I cannot take it". Sounds like just the kind of therapy I could use

You are far from too harsh.

I'm not sure about countries outside of the USA - but I think its horrid how we're raising children these days to be so damn passive aggressive... especially in a world thats so abrasive.

Its a shame that assertiveness and honesty are seen as negative things; when people put unfounded emotions ahead of actual honesty and constructive criticism.

Be as direct and open as humanly possible. Stand out from the crowd.

I think that you only like to get your points straight, that's not harsh. Harsh would be something like if you are lying and using offensive language.

You don't seem too harsh or out of line in anyway.

But if you gave an example or a post that you were thought maybe you went too far it would be easier to judge.

How concerned are you that people might think you to be harsh or abrasive, Leny?

If you're that concerned, then learn to adjust to the way they want to be talked to, or perhaps compromise your straightforward "style" with their possibly "break it to me gently" preferred way of receiving your messages.

Or you can simply tell them to frickin' take it or leave it.

Take My Advice (in my $27 WSO product) Or Get Behind In The Money Making Race seems to sell well too, I observe.

Who cares if a particular person thinks you're too harsh.

If that's how you are, then be yourself. Better to be authentic.

Not everyone is going to like you anyway, so find the people who do like your style and sell to them while not worrying about pretending to be something that you're really not.

Some people have said that I am an arrogant @ick because I refer to my business wins in the past and I draw from my experience in talking about marketing.

    I am who I am.

If someone doesn't like the fact that I call stupid "stupid" and that I've got experience and success to back up my statements, I'm not losing any sleep over the person who got their feathers ruffled.

No you are not harsh ... you are just jotting down the reality and truth is always bitter ... probably that's the reason why some people are offended by your posts.

    Leny.

I think the fact that you actually took the time to write a post questioning yourself says a lot. Some people are timid, some are assertive and then some are well...some. So I ask you this

"If someone brings you a present and you do not accept it, to whom does the present belong?"

P.S. I am going to watch bgmacaw's commercial again.

P.P.S Sometimes a kick in the .... is exactly what I need. GOING BACK TO WORK

    P.P.P.S Commercial first, then work

Everybody has their own way of explaining things and conveying their message to others. You are not too harsh, but sometimes it's hard to emphasize your emotion when saying the message to people through text on the screen.

At least you have taken the time to explain yourself and what you mean by what you say. There is something to be said for that right there.

      So... Keep making money man!

      ... and - Get To Work! ;]

One of the challenges with written communication is that we lose the nuances of facial expressions, body language and vocal inflections. What might sound perfectly reasonable orally might come off as harsh when all you have is a string of capital letters and exclamation points. Which I'm sure you are aware is generally accepted as shouting.

If you're worried about posts here in the forum, there are a number of things you can do, primarily avoiding the all caps. You'll notice also that several posters added various smilies when reflecting your own call to action back to you.

As for the message itself, I'm with Mike Hiles on this one. Be yourself.

It's likely that anyone sensitive enough to be offended at just being told to go back to work would benefit from the experience anyway if it helps them to grow a thicker skin, otherwise they won't last til lunchtime in business. By helping them to toughen up in this way, you are empowering them with the ability to cope with the really traumatic events that occasionally beset an internet marketer - like discovering that the Warrior Forum is temporarily down

      I wouldn't sweat it.

Writing online is always a challenge, and I don't just mean SEO-wise. People can misinterpret a written joke online versus how it's told orally because you can't hear tones and inflexion.

That's why actors are so good. They're able to interpret something off the written page in its entire context and really convey in a verbal manner with the right intensity.

I've been interested in screenwriting, so writing online is good practice for me to help convey the exact intent of a message.

Also, we were all newbies once and asked the same questions, so I try to be mindful of that, too.
