What are some HOT Niches for 2010?

Hey guys,

I am new here as you can see. I just started IM about a week ago - put up a website, autoresponder, opt in, affiliate prods etc.

But I am kinda confused on what niche I should pick and how to market it most effectively in a short period of time.

To stick to the topic, here is what I think: Anything related to today's economy, the current oil spill, climate change, unemployment.

What do you think of these "broad" ones? Can you suggest something narrower and HOTTER?

Also, could you please suggest any quick result marketing techniques?

Thanks guys.

  • Hot niches? Here are some of the top of my head:

    The..
    -jacuzzi niche
    -Sun niche
    -Barbecue niche
    -Oven niche
    -Iron niche.

    • [ 1 ] Thanks

    • The "Sun" niche?

ie, sunscreen? sunbathing? swimming? Girls Gone Wild at the beach?
      • [2] replies
    • I forgot to add Chicken Curry
      • [1] reply
  • If you are just starting out, then the last thing that you want to do is jump into the "hot niches".

Choose a niche that you are excited about, not what others are. Your burnout clock will last a lot longer if you are genuinely interested in the topic that you are pushing.
  • A very good niche you can also consider is alternative energy - teaching people how to make their own alternative energy at home instead of depending on gas for their cars or electricity at home. This is a good niche that brings good money.
    • [1] reply
    • Ya, but collecting the methane gas from your cow gets old real fast. Also, a lot of people aren't allowed to have pets where they live.
      • [ 1 ] Thanks

  • I agree, but Right now, 'World cup' is the hottest niche. Try making something related with it, you will surely succeed.
    • [2] replies
    • Surely?

I think there's a little more to it than that.
    • World Cup was the hottest niche about a month ago. It final is today, so I doubt it will get much attraction in the next few weeks... at least until four years from now...
      • [1] reply
  • Uhhh.

    ohhhh!

Yeah, I knew what the joke was all along
  • you guys are hilarious. back to business though. lets see I am currently majoring in chemical engineering so alternative energy is will also help my major. but is it really lucrative?

any suggestions on niches that solve problems relating current issues?
  • You want to go for a niche that doesn't have much competition too, because if you want to land on Google's page 1, you wouldn't want to work TOO hard to get there.

    And Google says:

    "world cup": About 230,000,000 results

    "alternative energy": About 6,890,000 results

"Girls Gone Wild": About 4,000,000 results

"Girls Gone Wild at the beach": About 269,000 results

"methane gas from cow": About 45,500 results

    "crappy workstations": 35 results

"solve problems related to current issues": 2 results

So nah, nobody really wants to "solve problems related to current issues", you can refer to the almighty Google for that.

So picking a niche somewhere between cow fart, wild wanton women by the sea, and junk computers might be hot AND manageable enough for you, especially if you're just starting out.

But be sure to do your own research yourself. The figures above are just from simple Google searches you can use as a starting point for your more serious explanation.

    Hope that helps!

    • A hot niche to me is not a topic that is just seeing a lot of buzz or search activity, you can go poor VERY quickly chasing after these niches -- instead, go after niches where there is evidence of MONEY changing hands.

What is selling? Either physical products or information products - what is moving and what is not - THAT will tell you which niche is hot from a money-in-your-pocket perspective.

Or -- you could choose to go the ad route, in which case you want to study where ad spending is happening. If you check Google Adwords and see that people are spending 3$, $4 or more per click, then it stands to reason there is more ad revenue opportunity in those niches - cha ching!

Go where the money is flowing NOT just where the traffic is going...follow the money trail my friend!

  • Hot niches change all the time so it's hard to give one and to be honest if someone had a real hot niche they are probably not likely to share it.

Personally, I've done all the different types of keyword research etc to find a good niche with good keywords, but in the end I chose a niche that I am comfortable with, that I can relate to and am passionate about, a niche that I can write about over and over again.

Just choosing a niche because it is 'hot' isn't always the answer, if it isn't something you can write about then you can get bored with it very difficult and find it a real chore to work on. If you are writing about a niche that you are passionate about then you can keep on going and enjoy working on it.

I know this isn't everyone's opinion and many people will say not to go for the niche you are passionate about but rather go for the 'hot' niche that has lots of searches and little competition. This is just my opinion and after lots of trial and error, the passionate niche is what has worked for me.

    • the world cup is ending now. I think they are playing the semi finals...

not good to start right now.

my recommendation... make a list of things you can handle, and search for all of them, get the one that has more search volume and less competition by itself or in a subniche.

after you get the ropes of it, you can get into any niche. But while you are learning you will have to be in contact with it for a while. You don't want to be in a niche you can't stand...

if you want something fast, think seasonal... back to school is coming up (probably too close now to do anything really good), and then Halloween. Look for hot products on those areas and go after them, if you want to do trends.

  • I personally started out my first 5 niche sites with businesses that I have started in the past or was always interested in starting.... I was very interested the way these particular businesses operated and got started... so I basically started a blog about all the ins and outs of the particular business and wrote in great detail about it... Sort of a "how to get started in this business" guide.... I worked for me and I didn't burnt out.. learned a lot in the process as well.
  • The World Cup is ending on Sunday, and there are only 2 countries left. And as far as star power is concerned, there is only one player playing in the Finals who can be considered as a global superstar - Fernando Torres. Long gone are the Rooneys, the Messis, the Kakas, the Drogbas.

So yes, concentrating on this niche - if it's even a niche - wouldn't be practical. You might as well focus on the 2012 Olympics, if sports is your fancy.
  • The World Cup is an idiot idea, it's over in 2 days.

Evergreen topics are better - I have pages that have been earning AdSense money since '03.

You say you're a chemical engineer. Congratulations, you have a potentially lucrative B2B niche with practically no SEO competition. While newbies are wasting time in the weight loss and forex niche, you can be making big bucks in the B2B niche. And because your topic is so complex and "boring", none of the wiseguys here will be able to compete with you .

Disclosure: I started out as a biochemist. It's a good niche!
  • I think that's your niche right there, how many other students are just like you around the world, studying alternative energy solutions and yes this can be very lucrative just do a quick search for "alternative energy solutions" on Google and you'll see some major Fortune 100 companies advertising.

Also, check out some sub-niches such as alt energy investing, carbon trading, etc. these are going to be very popular in the future.

As for how to monetize, I would recommend two ways (and both are long-term, high margin ways):

    (1) Create a Techmeme-type site for alt energy and seek advertisers / sponsors (BTW, Techmeme sponsorships start at $6K/month and they currently have 6 companies sponsoring their site)

    (2) Create an alt energy newsletter for students and others in the engineering / alt energy field, again, looking for sponsorships / advertisers to monetize.

Heck, you could even just create a site, newsletter, etc and charge for businesses to place job ads in the alternative energy field.

I know you where looking for hot niches for 2010 but maybe this could help, good luck.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks

  • It's good you are new and read to learn. But first what are you passionate about. What are you good at that you believe you can do best than others. This should be your guiding factors in choosing a niche that will help you become successful online. Every niche is hot in 2010 if you make it. Go out there and make your own hot niche.
  • Google trends will give you a hint
    • [1] reply
    • Okay, nobody has said this (can't believe it) so I will.

Nobody is going to come here and hand you, on a silver platter, a niche
that they personally busted their hump to find and monetize.

They'd have to be stark raving out of their minds.

Learn to do niche research and find them yourself.

If that sounds cold, it's the best advice you've gotten in this whole thread.

  • There is one HOT niche which savvy marketers have tapped into for centuries.

It is the ME niche. The What's In It For ME niche.

It really doesn't matter as long as you offer a product or service which is about THEM. I wrote a report on this called THE PROSPECT AS PRODUCT.

In a nutshell, when you put the prospect first, what is good for him, what she wants, and you sincerely try to provide the thing they WANT and sometimes NEED, then you won't ever have a problem being in a HOT niche.

Of course there are trends, events and "The Parade of Life" to consider. A trend? How about the Miami Heat and LeBron James? Before the year is out you'll see "AKRON, OH SOUTH" bars and pubs on S. Beach.

Events? There will be another olympics, world cup, The OPEN...all recurring EVENTS people spend millions of dollars on.

Parade of Life? Marriages. Babies (and all the products that come with them)...Divorce. Investments. Retirement and Care of Senior Loved Ones.

When your product or service addresses the needs and wants, when you put THEM above yourself and when you can provide something of value to THEM...then YOU cannot help but to prosper.

Cater to the ME inside of us all and you'll have the hottest NICHE ever.

  • these are the top three hottest niches, i.e where most of the money is 1)internet marketing, 2)weight loss and fitness 3)dating niches. However do note that they are super duper competitive and which is why it is not so good for a newbie to start in. What you want to do is go to clickbank.com, and look for any product, and open up google search tool, link the product with the number of searches and you are bound to find a non competitive good niche, hope I helped

  • If your keywords match your site concept then keep them all, don't narrow them down, use them, and then find more keywords that suit you. You asked for something quick I think you got some good advice that you can use. Just be sure to use it.

Been at IM for a week...all the best to you, your writing makes it sound like you are enthusiastic about what you are doing, so go ahead and give it a hell of a good try. I think you will do good...I honestly expect to hear that you are successful. Not only that, but you are at a good forum I think you will find a lot of help here.

I assume you are a newcomer too...good luck to you as well man...your right about a lot of good people being on this forum...I can see that I have met some and infact replying to one right now
  • Any niche where a cutomer has a problem that they need resolved fast is a hot niche and they can be evergreen niches.

Personally, I'm seeing lots of action from pest control niches. For example sites on how to prevent:

    Spiders
    Fleas
    Head Lice
    Termites
    Bed Bugs
    Dust Mites
    Bees
    Wasps
    Ants
    Roaches

and much more.....trust me, there are a lot of critters in this world that folks need help getting rid of or preventing.

    Respectfully,
    Tim
  • There are a bunch of trending sites that will show you what is on the upswing.

This might also help What is Hot and What is Not in Technology for 2010
  • The hottest niche is right in front of your face. You made this post because you wanted to find out what can make you money this year. Millions of Americans are feeling the same way. Job creation is at a stand still. Consumer spending is ridiculously low.

Instead of trying to beat the odds by selling products to a marketplace that is keeping a tight watch on their wallets, sell legitimate services that help them add money to their wallets, i.e. skill teaching, headhunting, etc.

This site is a fantastic example of how to take advantage of this dismal economy. Most of the members of this forum are here to find out how to make more money. Warrior Forum offers classifieds and the WSO board for people to offer services and courses that are all designed to help your bottom line... and Allen is making a killing doing so.

Warriors are paying Allen thousands of dollars a day to advertise these services and courses. Those that have a legitimate service are making a killing selling these services.

If you are truly looking for the hottest niche of 2010, open your eyes. You're right in the middle of it.

  • Hello,

I think the best place to start would be with a niche you're passionate about. If you don't know much about the niche just yet, take time out to research. Best of luck!

  • World cup was good, but how would someone make a niche out of it? I mean what products can you sell? soccer shoes, balls, betting?

But I think that a niche for a newcomer would be something that he/she is passionate about...I think i have discovered that

and so I am going with alternative energy...its a little broad but as i research i will find more narrower niches related...

please come in with suggestions...you guys are amazing

    thanks

    • if folks are having very low income, then who will pay IMs from their won pockets. So that makes life hard for IMs, right ?

That means the profitability quotient is less...

    • 243,000,000 million Youtube views of "Bad Romance" by Lady Gaga and you have a massive following of her.

I'll show you how people are cashing in on her right now, shortly. But first, here are examples of money been made from fans.

EXAMPLES: One entrepeneur noticed Rap artists were wearing gold teeth. I think the term is "sliders" as it refers to the gold piece sliding over the top of the tooth. So he set up a website selling these to Rap followers. He made a killing.

Team sports fans want to wear their teams insignias and brands. Online, LA Lakers clothing searchers have a track record of buying 100% of the time. And yes you can be an affiliate for their clothing.

V8 motorsport fans in Australia and New Zealand are either Ford or Holden supporters. Not only do they buy stuff that match their brand, but they buy stuff that pokes fun at their enemy...the other brand.

Now back to Lady Gaga, her video Bad Romance shows her with big doll, doe, like eyes. Well her fans want to be like her so they are buying up contact lens's which are bigger than their iris which gives a bigger eye look...just like their idol!

See story here...Girls go gaga over big eyes | Stuff.co.nz.

Where you find fans of movie stars, singing stars and bands...sports people and sports teams, you will find rabid buyers. Nothing new about it.

      All the best,

      Ewen

    • Your squeeze page looks pretty good for a beginner! Looks like you have spent a few bucks making it look nice.

Can you give us Warriors an update of what you have been doing? I ask because I didn't know about this place for about 6 months when I first got in to IM. That's how green I was! But on reading many many posts I was able to take some uber positive action.

Have you started a blog to go along with this page? Have you discovered the keywords you are going to target? Are you building links and if so, what kind of links? Are you using social media and Web2.0 to get your site known?

It would be great to hear what you have taken away and implemented over the last few days from the comments left.
  • I don't want to rain on your parade, but be carefull when selecting your products - especially with certain renewable energy products. Do your research on the market before you spend the time. As a mechanical engineer, alternative and passive solar energy was the most talked about solar energy product in the '70's. A home designer named Shurclif even designed and built a house in Montana which he could heat and cool for $15.00 / month (1970's energy prices). Heat tubes with salts were also the rage. Yet the concepts did not market well.

However, as a chemical engineer, if you could design and market products to the people who are affected by the BP gulf oil well spill, well, you could make a lot of money from the people who still have money.

And don't forget, the oil reaching the beaches are only a part of the assorted chemicals comming from the wellhead.

    Good luck.
