Advice on landing page please

Ok, our business has a main website at our root domain. It's currently being redesigned. It will look something like this when it's done (that's the redesign I'm working on in a subdomain).

simple.karate-usa.com

However, I wanted a VERY SIMPLE landing page that would run down our company and program and offer for free trial class all on one single page to hopefully increase conversions from people that click on google ads. That landing page concept can be seen here:

signup.karate-usa.com

My original plan was just to link our Google ads to the landing page. What else could I use it for? Or should I use the landing page as the root domain and allow people to click through to the full site if they'd like?

Any advice you could offer would be great. Thanks so much!

    it looks good.

you might be losing money on the table though... why don't you find way to collect the lead?

offer a free brochure with further detail for example... you need to get their contact info somehow.

People get distracted easily, lose focus... even people who might want to go ahead, might leave it for later and don't find you any more.

I'm collecting the lead by them signing up for a free trial class (the button is linked yet). But once they click the button it collects their info and their trial class date.

      Is that what you mean?

And can you provide some insight on where to use the landing page? Should it be used as main site or should it just be linked to google ads and such as I previously planned?

Make an introductory video to welcome new visitors. Tell them what you do and how you can help them. Then tell me what they need to do in order to get it.

Or at least have the testimonial auto play. You main objective would be to get them on some sort of list. Like Sandra Martinez mentioned. Collect email contact number etc. call the back and close the deal

Nobody is answering the original quesiton. I don't have a problem collecting the leads. My problem is figuring out how to use the landing page (as main site or just as a page linked to ads we run, etc.).

sorry... when you put many elements in the same paragraph the intention gets lost.

you are asking about other sources of traffic? is that what you want?

yes, video is what I would go after. Make an introductory video of you (or the client), as Gavin said. But, upload it to youtube and clones.

then embed that video in the page.

the capture form should be there in the page, not after they click, too many steps...

you might want to do some promotion of the videos, bookmarking campaign, for example... and pinging.

do some keyword research and use your main keyword in title of the videos and introductory text.

tag it... well, you probably know... the whole round.

you can also do a series of educational videos showing self defence for example... something that is compelling.

I would use it as a main site. It looks clear and focused now.

Linking it up to ads, etc would make it look busy, which distracts the visitor. Don't give the visitor too many choices to make. Steer them toward one call to action.

I usually have an optin page for ad traffic, because that's what I really want from them. Then for the real site I have information, and an optin on the right or left (better). Ad companies such as Google want to see that there is a real site, something that increases value for the visitors.

I have a few comments for you. First, I know you mentioned you aren't having a problem collecting leads, but I would still include some content on "how to choose a martial arts school" tip sheet, or something along those lines and see if you can get people to give you their contact information to get the tip sheet.

Second, I like the video, but I agree with a poster above that if you included material about what you do, show an instructor teaching, perhaps break the video out by section, like helping to improve grades and then give a testimonial on that piece, then a section on instilling discipline then a testimonial on that, then a section on building self confidence and a testimonial or two on that, etc. It has been shown with statistics that people will watch longer videos as long as it is engaging.

Now to your original question. I would NEVER use a landing page as a main page because all of your statistics on visitors will be jumbled together. I would set up a landing page for each specific source I was trying to pull traffic from, i.e. one for your Facebook fan page click through traffic and one for your Google Ad Words, etc. It can all be the same content and video, etc., but the pages themselves should be named differently so your analytics (Google Analytics) will list each specific page and show how many visitors came to that page. If that page is ONLY linked to your Ad Words then you know all the traffic on there is just from that source. If another landing page is ONLY linked to your Facebook Fan Page then you know all the traffic on there came from just that source. Doing this over time should help you figure out which traffic generating sources are producing traffic for you and which ones aren't If you also tie each page into a unique lead generation form then you also can tell which traffic source delivers better quality traffic that is more likely to convert to a lead.

For example, say you want to set up Google Ad Words I would create a landing page in a directory (not the root) and name it GAD-Land.htm for example. Then I would put a form on that landing page with a PHP script that processed the form and automatically populated the subject line of the email to read "Inquiry from Google Ad Words Landing Page" so I know when a form arrives which landing page it came from. Using my Google Analytics I could see if GAD-Land.htm was getting traffic and more importantly how much traffic, which would indicate my Ad Words were pulling well and what my rate of conversion. Measuring how many people completed the form as a ratio of how many people visited that page and knowing how much I spent on Ad Words can give me my very valuable information of cost per lead from that specific source.

    Hope that helps.
