no specific reason for the overly dramatic title, but i'm doing some keyword research and had a couple of questions.

1. Is there distinction between 'word' and 'words' or 'basket' and baskets' -- are they completely separate in their own little keyword worlds?

2. I've been using Micro Niche Finder and have had some keywords that have potential. But then I investigate further and I see other people (obvious internet marketers) who have tried to target these keywords and apparently failed (because they are so so far back in the pages)..

Do you guys ever come across good keywords anymore that don't at least have obvious ATTEMPTS to monetize after?

And if so is the goal then to just play the game better than them? To compete and just build a more solid foundation for yourself? What should I be looking for when checking out the territory?

The singular and plural versions of any keyword or keyword phrase usually have different searches per month but the competition can also be quite different IE a search for Ford Mustangs will "probably be searched more than the singular version term: Ford Mustang.

The later is usually better as it is a more specific search phrase whereas the plural version (ford mustangs) is more likely to be used for information gathering purposes or "shoppers" etc.

The fact that there are other numerous attempts to monetize the keyword phrase you are also interested in that haven't resulted in a first place ranking is a good thing! Most niche bloggers DON'T even submit one article to get that URL indexed, they (for the most part) don't do ANY promotion of that website at all!

If Micro Niche Finder is telling you it's a Green (or sometimes even a Yellow - with more work that is) I would "go for it" and become that guy to get the first place position!....The can only be one, it might as well be you!

    Hope that helps..

If you think you can rank well for it, go for it. Then do appropriate backlinking.

Hmmmm...that's a very good question. I know it might seem obvious, but the only way to know for sure which search engines consider plurals to be the same as singulars and which don't is to type in the singular and plural version of the keyword in a search engine and see if the results produced are the same or different.

Obviously, if the results are the same for both keywords, then the search engine interprets plural keywords in the same way as singular keywords. If the results are different, then the search engine interprets plural keywords differently from singular keywords.

The last time I checked, the only search engine of any consequence, Google considers the plural keyword to be different from the singular keyword.
