HELP: HOW TO USE ADDON DOMAINS IN HOSTGATOR

Hi Everyone,
I am new to hostgator hosting, recently I bought a baby plan hosting package and wish to start creating affiliate sites, I bought a single domain but wish to create many sites with different domains, is that possible using only a single domain or do I have to purchase new domains for new websites?

Also I saw an option of creating an unlimited number of addon domains, so can I use these to create a number of different websites with different domain names? as I have tried installing a wordpress blog to one of the addon domains that I tried but when I tried to access the wp-admin, it failed to load?

Can anyone help me with this, please?!

Go to your C-Panel and pull up the "live chat." They can usually walk you through step-by-step.

There's a difference between addon domains and subdomains.

When you start with hostgator you had a domain, that's your main domain in your hosting account. If you want to create different sites with only buying one domain, you can create different subdomains. Those will look like this site1.yourdomain.com. Now, an addon domain is something different. You will need to buy a new domain name from a domain registrar and then add it to your hosting account via the addon domains section. Make sure to have the nameservers of this domain pointing to your hosting. Once all that is done, you can see the site.

What I think you did is added a domain, without buying it, or at least without pointing the nameservers to your hosting account.

If you do the live chat with the tecs from hostgator, they can walk you through the exact steps. I have used them many times and they are great. Just tell them what your problem is and what you are trying to do. Then they will give you the steps. Just don't let them send you to some help page. Get them to wlk you through it.

You buy your first domain and that is your main hostgator domain
Then you buy a new domain
    Click on addon domain
    Add the domain
Point the domain nameservers to your hostgator account in your registrar

Now you're ready to use that domain in hostgator
You can do that for unlimited amount of domains ... on baby, maybe there's a limit but just upgrade if you reach it.

If you want to create many Wordpress blogs under different domains, then use the multi site feature of Wordpress 3.0, do not install Wordpress under each domain... you need only one wordpress install. See http://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network and http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/...omain-mapping/ .
