Any success with Kijiji.com(ebay classifieds)?

Hey everyone. I'm curious to know if anyone has had much success with kijiji.com, the ebay classifieds?

I am testing some craigslist ads for a friend of mine that runs a local personal training studio. Kijiji looks pretty dead when I do a local search, but figure that could also mean it's a gold mine lol.

I am running a campaign to test it out, just wanted to hear some experiences with it.

It doesn't even come close to craigslist in traffic. I've tested extensively between craigslist, backpage, kijiji and a couple of other classified sites and none of them are even close to craigslist in terms of traffic and traffic quality.

Alright, thanks for that. I might cut the kijiji campaign short then. I hate wasting effort lol.

I forgot to add one part. Kijiji will get you traffic, just not as much as craigslist. The traffic does convert. The thing is you have to see if it's worth it to you. For example I usually just pay people to post for me and kijiji (and backpage) wasn't worth it for me paying what I was paying. I did see traffic coming from the site and some conversions, but the traffic and conversions were lower than my craigslist ads. They didn't justify the cost. It wasn't worth it for me, but depending on your product or what you're advertising or how much it's costing you to post it might be worth it for you. Also kijiji has grown since Ebay has been featuring them prominently on their site.

Yea, thats what I've been seeing about Ebay promoting them more. I thought, man this might be nice spot.

How many posts were you having submitted a day to craigslist and kijiji? Also were they the same service/product?

    Thanks for the help.

I was doing 100+ posts per day. Actually the way it worked was I was doing long term business on craigslist minimum 100 posts per day. Then craigslist got tougher so I switched to backpage. The conversions weren't to great so I went with kijiji. I always maintained 100+ posts per day. I also tried usfreeads and a couple of other sites and none of them could compare with craigslist. My expectations were modest though. I figured if I could make at least make my money back plus a little extra I would be happy. With craigslist I was making about triple my money back on most days and the other sites I couldn't even break even.

The ads were pretty much all the same. I had about 20 different ad variations I was using, but they were basically the same thing. Once CL got tough I used the same ads on the other sites. They just didn't bring enough traffic.

Yea, when craigslist buckled down it made it harder to market through them. I will just be posting locally of course for my friend about 5 a day. Each will cover a different service she provides. Gonna see if only 5 a day is even worth the effort.

If you're only doing five posts a day you might as well mix it in with some craigslist. If it's a local service you will probably have more luck than me. People had to visit one of my sites and put their credit card information and wait for their orders to be fulfilled. It's really all a matter of testing and seeing what works. You might not need five posts a day either. Some services just need a post here and there. I was posting nationwide.

    It depends where you are.

In Canada Kijiji gets more traffic than Craigslist (at least in smaller cities). I have sold tons of stuff (cars, motorhomes, travel trailers) on Kijiji in short order.

My experience in Calgary, Kijiji and Craigslist are close to equal. Now I only post a real estate ad about once every 6 months. I'm not talking about the volume of posts mentioned in a couple of the earlier posts.

And Kijiji has one nice advantage over Craig's list. They mix in some paid options. I once bumped an ad to the top for less than $2 and it made me several hundred dollars. That bump did get just a single phone call so that was also a bit lucky.

I got the idea to post on Kijiji from an old venture that lives in Canada. I see why he talked highly about it lol.

I have tried kijiji and got none, zero, zip. This is because they do not allow links. That is unlike craigslist where I have receive lots of traffic, but it is full of spam now. Social Bookmarking is better than K or Klones any. Youtube is also a great way.

really depends on demand, have now since placed 2 ads on kijiji traffic about 50 visitors. If you also pay to bump it up after you place the ad for 1.99 you will see a peak of traffic. You may want to tweak the ad. As for right now due to the "recession" finding for a personal trainer / studio may be more difficult, however an ad like Register for Yoga this weekend works. I placed a ad for my yoga instructor and he received 50 leads and so far 5 customers.

Craigslist for me is dead have used it and have not received any responses.

i will second the canada thing. i used to post adds to kijiji.ca and get tons and tons traffic. because of their review process, adds are hard to post. there is a much smaller scam:legit ratio so the traffic quality is pretty high. But this is only in canada. kijiji in the US does not come anywhere close to CL. so unless you are promoting something that can benifit from canadian traffic, i would just stick to craigslist
