Any Experience With iFreelance?

I've recently scored a very big writing project and I'm looking for ways to work out payment and delivery of the project with the client (dividing it up) in a way that's fair and safe for both of us. I've never used any of the freelancing sites before.

Looking at the commission rates, a lot of sites take a pretty good chunk, which means that I'm looking at losing $500-1000 on the project just in commission.

iFreelance charges a monthly fee and has no commission, so it's looking like a favorable option if she wants to go this route.

Does anyone have experience with it, either as a freelancer or a client?

Love,
Shannon

I have a horrible experience as a client.
Posted a Web design project, had quite a few bids. Picked a local US designer rather than somebody cheap in India because the product advertised on the site was specifically targeting US audience, so needed somebody with the right product vision. Talked to the designer on the phone prior to choosing him as winning bidder. That was the last time I talked to him on the phone, always got a voicemail after that. There were excuses like "my server crashed last night" and I need to design everything from scratch" and others of this kind. It's been dragging forever, so after a few warnings I finally requested money back through Paypal. Unfortunately I never got my money...
Not sure how other freelance sites work, I think RentACoder.com has an escrow system.
    Good luck!
