My Biggest Problem with my Business...

Does anyone else have the problem of "staying on one task" while growing their internet business? I cannot stay on one single task to save my life. Time is money in this business and I constantly find myself jumping from job to job. For example, I am supposed to be setting up my autoresponders right now, but I am typing this message instead.

I have heard that I need to outsource more of my business. I am stubborn in the fact that I don't want to share the money. But, as one of my fellow marketers told me, I would make more money, so in the end I would come out better.

Does anybody have any other suggestions? Are their any good "Planning" type programs that I could use at a reference so that I could meet specific deadlines?

Thanks in Advance,

Mike

Yes there are a few good sites that help you stay on task.

    1)rememberthemilk.com
    2)rescuetime.com

Fellow warrior Tyrone Shum has a video that goes in depth on these sites.

Set up a daily schedule. Do this each night before you go to bed to work out exactly what you are going to do for the next day. Also schedule in time for Warrior Forum and other stuff that easily gets you sidetracked but make sure you schedule those in later in the day.

Oh man, this is a huge problem for me too, and a lot of others as well. It's tough to knuckle down and do what you gotta do without getting distracted. So many times I've sat down to work on some thing and then decide I'll take a sec to read an email first. An hour and a half later I find myself doing everything but what I sat down to do.

As was mentioned before, the best thing I have found it to create some type of schedule, or to-do list. Write down a list of things you want to get done each day and then go through them one by one. Sounds stupid simple but it really does work. Even with that I still struggle sometimes, but it's better than not having one.

      Good luck.

I have a dry erase board hanging on the wall right behind my computer.

    It says...

    1) Listbuilding
    2) Marketing to list
    3) JVs
    4) Copywriting

Then everything I do contributes to those 4 things.

The same idea might help you, might not...

It makes it easier for me to stay focused when I have what I need to accomplish right in front of my face hanging on the wall every day.

    Hey,

Writing stuff down is definitely important... and go with a pen and a notebook instead of software.

At the end of each day, write a list of the things you want to accomplish tomorrow. It will be on your mind all night and you will wake up knowing exactly how to accomplish what you wanted.

Keep it in front of you during the day... you will get distracted but you will keep looking back at your notepad and be reminded of what you should be doing.

    That works for me...

The other benefit to writing out a list is that you get to check things off as you complete them.......very satisfying, which in turn will motivate you.

Yea I tried all of that. A little tip:

    They don't work.

Rescue time, tried it, didn't help.
Writing stuff down: Ended up covering BOTH monitors with Post-its. While not working...

Writing stuff in software: Ended up with a bunch of scattered posts with no discernible order and had to spend time chasing down "what I was supposed to be doing that day".

Write board: Hanging up right now, with my to do list. Spent an hour perfecting it. Not a single item is checked off.

One day I watched a video online (wasting time as usual) and it really opened up my eyes as to what my problem was.

And guess what? It isn't organization or time management problems. All of that is a bunch of crap.

An over-simplified version of the video basically made me come to the conclusion:
I didn't like anything I was doing with my life. So I instead would seek out escapes to avoid that "pain" if you will. I would browse forums, (cough cough), go to Facebook, etc.

Maybe you should look at why you aren't getting things done. Is it because you hate what you're doing? If you do, maybe this business isn't for you...

    Just a thought.

It's very easy to get distracted while on the net, but I also agree with you about the time is money part.

Right now I've having 4 of my URLs outsourced for backlinks. The process takes 3 to 10 days. It's day 2 and I'm trying to think what else can I do?

Nothing really. I just have to wait for the process to complete itself. It's actually calming for me to be on the forum. It's good to take a break away from the computer every once in a while.

    LOL you sound like me.

Maybe start simply and do just 1 article a day. Once you've done that for 2 weeks straight add something else.

It is easy to get distracted, but I try to break things up a little, so I'll do one thing and them maybe take a little break - then I come back more refreshed and ready to work on the next thing. So far that's worked for me pretty well.

I have ADD so I know how hard it is to stay on task sometimes.

The only thing that has ever worked for me is setting goals and plans daily and making those goals modest. I tell myself, Okay I will get through this list of links, today, or, Okay I'll submit 5 new articles today, or, I will get the automatic store finished on my forum. something to get done in bite size pieces that does not feel intimidating or like you don't know where to begin.

Yes I certainly have the problem of staying focused or staying on track. I try to write a To Do list in my diary but often I forget to even do that!

I have to admit though the days that I do write a To Do list I really do achieve more and stay more focused so for me, writing it down does help.

    Mike,

It may be what I like to call a kind of paralysis. I can see that you know what you want to accomplish and can probably understand what you need to do, but that does not stop us from sometimes being daunted at the prospect of undertaking the necessary work and gettingsthings done.

You just need to work though it. Tell yourself that you'll simply make a start on one thing at a time, do something minor and take a baby step toward your desired outcome.

There are no tricks or tips. Sometimes we need to plow through stuff.

We spend a great deal of time looking for methods, processes,etc......we spend more time on the BS than we do getting work done.

Mike, bottom line, you have to work through it.

Here is a quick one, try the website:
    dontbreakthechain

It's based on something Jerry Seinfeld said, where he did something towards his task everyday, and the rule was not to break the chain of ticking off the days that he works on it (even if it was 5 minutes!) - cool idea.

    I agree with Paula.
Stick at one program you're best at and make a target from $100, $150 and so on.
about money...hmm...it's not spending money but it's an investment. the money can be invested in software or a really good tutorial but, if it is related with outsourcing (and you can actually do it by yourself), just make ur own first so ur money can be saved for anothr investment and u can really understand the system by doing it by urself. for now, related with ur autoresponder progress, just make a simple target everyday...i know you can achieve it. Go Go Go
