Static Wordpress Page Question

Hey warriors,

Quick wordpress question for the wordpress experts out there.

When you create a static page on your Wordpress based website can you change the layout of your static page so that it looks different than the 'blog' element of your site.

To clarify. I'm setting up a site using Wordpress as the CMS. I want to have a static home page that has different sidebar content than the blog element of the website.

Is this possible? If so, can you point me in the direction to learn how to do it?

TIA.

I've seen it done, well more that I've seen it where one particular page has no side bar, so there is a full width code used. I'm not sure about having different sidebars though, although I'm sure it is possible.

You can make your own custom homepage with wordpress. Set it up so that it has it's own template.

Dare I say - if you use Atahualpa that's easily done. You have up to 4 sidebars you can use and you can specify which pages they appear on.

So you can have one (or more) that appear on your blog and different ones on your page(s)

Yes you can, as long as you're familiar with PHP and specially CSS. You can edit the look of your pages at the theme editor within your WP admin dashboard. But again, only if you're familiar with coding.

Yeah ... a lot of people thanked him for it. Wish I could find it, but Ivan usually drops in on Wordpress threads, so maybe he'll make an appearance.

It will work with any WP, regardless of the version... but it is theme-dependent.

Just a reminder: there are zillion themes that have the footer included in the sidebar (or viceversa), so deleting/replacing everything would kill the theme.

If you just want to have different widgets on different pages/Pages - use the widget logic plugin.

If you need Page templates with a different design - use my tutorial.

P.S. (for sbucciarel) Ivan is my son
