My wife is looking to work at home...

Hey folks,

I've been searching the internet for my wife to work at home... All I seem to find is spam and scam. Can someone out there please give me direction on who to contact to get a good job, a good employer who is hiring people to work from home.

Please note we are not trying to build a business.

Thank you

Dave

PS- my wife is pregnant and I don't want our child to be raise in day care.

Depends on what kind of work she is looking to do but I heard this place is always looking for help from home workers and is legit.

Virtual Call Center and Contact Center, Work-at-Home Jobs | NTI

It would be like customer service and answering calls work like that.

    Good luck to you guys

    hope this helped you out

    Hey Dave,

You are right about there being tons of scams out there. Boy are there ever.

What are your wife's strengths? She could provide services on here and build a reputation. For example, article writing. If she does a decent job she'll find there will be plenty of work for her, especially as she builds relationships with marketers on here.

Whatever her strongest skills are ... she can sell that. I know you're not looking to build a business, but I personally don't know of any non-scam offers that hire people to work from home. The only really legit ones would be on a board like monster.com or other career boards, and they would be few and far between.

Check out ProBlogger's blog. He has a job board ... might be something there and also about.com hires writers when they have an opening.

I give my vote for wahm.com. The best section is the forum section where there's a multitude of online jobs from transcription to working in a virtual call center. It may take some time to dig through everything (there's a lot of different sub-forums there). But its a great place to start. (FYI: I would avoid the classified section as thats where a lot of scams are listed).

She might also want to check out ratracerebellion.com The site contains a list of companies that hire people to work from home ranging from clerical work to medical to legal. Just be sure to do your due diligence with any company/job first before you start sending out information.

Also, be sure that she picks something that displays her strengths (i.e. if she's a good writer she may want to look into working for companies such as Constant Content). That way she won't get "burnt-out" doing a job she doesn't like.

She could check out various freelance sites (elance, guru, etc...) to find plenty of work to do. There are also plenty of warriors here looking to hire people to do certain tasks. Just depends on what her skills are and what she's interested in doing.

If she's looking to work a job online (good luck with that) then you want to
go to sites like Monster, Careerbuilder, etc.

FYI, when I first lost my off line job, I registered with all these sites to try
to find a job. And mind you, I was a skilled computer programmer.

After years of searching and putting in applications, I not only never got a
job, I never even got an interview.

Online jobs are the hardest thing to find UNLESS you have a skill that is so
much in demand and has so little supply that you can practically name your
      price.

Transcriptionists, come to mind, but you have to be really good to get one
of those jobs. A friend of mine from Whydowork.com is a transcriptionist.
Her forum name is Ladybug. If you want, she can give you more info about
      this.

My suggestion, if she has any kind of skill at all, is to go to elance and sites
like that and offer your services. Build up a portfolio of work to show
      people.

In some ways, Internet marketing is a lot easier than going this route.

But I do wish her luck whatever she decides.

She could also try craigslist. Work at home jobs there are about 95% scam. But there's the other 5%.

Please note. NO w-2 work at home job will pay as well as an offline job. But keep in mind that you aren't having to commute, buy lunches, pay childcare, etc. There are companies that do allow work at home for real work (not stuffing envelopes or suchlike). I know because I work at one - W-2 every year and all (been there since 2004 - no, sorry, we aren't hiring at the moment - and she'd have to be knowledgeable in html/css/php and other such things - or a really excellent writer in our niche - even if we were).

But such companies do exist - they are just rare and VERY hard to find.

I first started writing articles for some people over at Freelancer.com. If she likes writing, there are many contracter jobs that pay decent. If she wants to work from home doing call center work, there are many respectable companies that hire. I worked for Alpine Access with one of the seasonal programs. The job is pretty fun and she has training and people to contact through IM for help if she gets stuck on anything. There are several other sites that offer this type of work that are legit. The thing is that they are contractor positions and do not offer any health care.

There are many other sites and I suggest that she goes to Workplacelikehome.com. Sign up for the forum and look through the many sites listed. She can find plenty of positions there that hire for almost anything - transcription, writing, call center, sales. There are minimum requirements for working at the positions, but she should be able to write off any new purchases on taxes for working at home.

    Hope that helps.

You can find legitimate home jobs, but unskilled work = unskilled pay. It becomes a scam when you are promised a lot of money for little work. Just never works that way.

There are many, many writing jobs out there, but it usually pays about $5 a post and if you are used to writing that turns into about $15 - $20 an hour. If your wife wants to write, she can post samples to AssociatedContent.com (making sure keywords for the article show up at least three times) and then refer employers to the site to see her samples.

Mystery shopping is completely legit, but it averages out to about 8-10 bucks an hour in the beginning. Check out Premiershoppers.com.(free) Basically you fill out an application and then they send you jobs in your area. Pretty easy work. You have to submit for several jobs before you start getting hired, just to show them you are serious. You will get steady work if you want it though. You need to own a camera, and printer/scanner.

Call centers are options for minimum wage. The survey/ focus things are complete hogwagsh.

I can't post links, but there is a good posting on findingwork at home jobs here-- todaysworkathomejobs.com/job-blog to help get you started. Just have her find something she likes and pursue it and she will have no trouble getting work if she stays focused.

    Hi there,

I commend you for not wanting to raise your child in daycare - I had to take that route for years with my two oldest children and I absolutely went nuts with guilt and trying to overcompensate for not being there!

One company that I know of that has an online work force (as well as a huge offline operation) is Convergys. Here's the link to their work-at-home application:

Careers with Convergys / Global Relationship Management Leaders / Work at Home

This is definitely a legit operation, no investment required, it would just depend on whether they needed workers when she applied, and they look for previous customer service (telephone) experience as well. A plus with this job would be that it could later transfer to an offline position since they have physical locations worldwide.

OR - if she doesn't have a college degree, she could do what I've been doing for the past year - combine affiliate marketing with taking online college classes. It's easy to get grants to pay for a large percentage of the classes, of course I'm going into debt with student loans as well. Considering I'll finally have my degree in December though, paying back the loans at $50.00 a month will be a piece of cake! (You don't have to start paying on the loans until six months after graduation).

Just a couple of thoughts, good luck and early congrats on the baby!!

If your wife can type I would be willing to give her some practice with transcription (with pay, of course). It is definitely not for everyone, but if she finds that she likes it, it would definitely give her the experience needed in the industry before people will even look at your resume. I do mostly interviews now, but I have 20+ years of medical experience and about 10 of legal. Let me know if she is interested. I have worked with quite a few Warrior members who have helped me tremendously and I don't mind helping someone else when/if I can. Best wishes, Kim

She could start out by writing - that's what I did and now I can make up to $2000 a month doing that. I usually make around $1500 or less a month because I am also maintaining my membership website (actually, it's a membership site helping people like her connect with reputable online writing clients) but she could make more depending on how much she wrote.

I would highly recommend starting with Associated Content and working from there.

You can PM me (or if you don't have enough posts, put a visitor message on my profile) and I can talk to you/her more about writing online, if you'd like to know more about it. This is really, by far from what I've seen, the best way to make money online if you don't want to start a business or do something long-term. Or even if you do want to write long-term, there's still quite a bit of flexibility, which sounds like something she needs if she'll be having a baby soon.

What does she enjoy doing and what is she good at?

I know my wife hates the technical side of the computer, but she can network and organize people like there is no tomorrow. So, that's what she does - she keeps our business organized, and does the same thing for 4 others in her spare time and makes good money doing it.

Other people have a talent for researching, writing, graphics work, producing audio products, etc...

There are tons of opportunities online, more a matter of matching that with your wife's strengths.

It all depends on what your wife is looking for. I understand you and your wife are expecting! Congrats! I wanted to add my two cents about the call center jobs. They are legit, one that comes to mind is LiveOps.

The problem with these jobs is they make it a requirement that you have no background noise while working. That means no baby crying in the background. That requirement makes keeping your baby home very difficult, even if your wife is working for home. Hope this helps!

first of all congrats, and yes I totally agree, you don't want your baby to grow in a day care or anywhere.
I think it's quite easy to bring in a few bucks from home, one way is for your wife to offer services for example at ODesk or other freelance websites where she can write articles for people and get paid nicely as although there are some really cheap article writers but there is people who want professionally written articles from native english speaker and for that they are willing to pay good money, in fact I pay $20 per article so if she can write 3 of these per day that's already something...

Nice idea not wanting the child to be raised in day care.

Giving some type of service such as article writing, building backlinks, etc can be a good way to start.

Hmmm...if she wants to work at home she could:

    1. Do Laundry

    LOL...I'm joking of course

The easiest way for someone looking to start out working from home is by providing a low-cost service, i.e.; writing, research, becoming a Virtual Assistant, etc.

That will bring in a modest income while learning what she needs to know to really set up a profitable business.

I'd be willing to bet you would make quite a bit more than minimum wage in a real-world evening or weekend part-time job. Heck, food demonstrators at Costco get about $15 an hour. She can take on some of your household chores to relieve your burden.
