Why Facebook the Site Will Die Adotas

According to the article, Facebook as a site will die off since it will be an integrated service.

Now, I remember a couple of weeks ago, someone mentioned that Google will die off and be replace with Facebook.

What do you guys think?

Will Facebook fade away within the next 3 to 5 years?

  • I highly doubt it will fade away into oblivion, but then again, stranger things have happened, the internet changes at the speed of light so I suppose anything is possible.

  • Facebook and Google are advertising agencies specializing in targeted ads. The data they "own" will keep them alive for quite a while.
  • No way. People go to facebook because they are comfortable with it. They want to see what their FB friends are up to, who posted what on their wall, etc. Why are there always weird rumors circulating about facebook? Not long ago people were saying FB was going to start charging its members...

    • I am not saying Facebook will but look how quickly everybody dropped friendster for Myspace and how quickly they dropped Myspace for Facebook

  • Facebook recently made one of the biggest changes in marketing - ever, yet alone anything as segregated as online marketing.

Facebook will be around for a LONG time.
  • A couple years ago someone told MySpace would never die. Look at it today: not dead BUT not $$$ growing.

Facebook is a different beast but it's not a immortal one cause it depends on the www and as we all know , the web can be a killer when we least expect it.

  • How many of you responding to the OP read the article? The article is not about Facebook dying, but Facebook as a website (as the OP noted) dying off.

The point of the article is that Facebook will morph into a service rather than a website. Instead of going to Facebook.com, Facebook features will integrated into your favorite websites or even your browser. No need to go to Facebook.com if you can interact with your friends on other websites or from browser add-ons.

    I could see this happening.

    • Facebook will probably die early tomorrow morning. But only because Dan Rinnert finally kicked up to 117 friends - which was an impossible goal for him for a very long time. Since he has finally made it there, it has caused a rift in the space time continuum - and so not only will Facebook go up in flames like Phoenix Bird, but Google will get sucked in along with it.

  • Actually I believe Classmates.com will eventually die
    a slow death.
Class reunion organizers are moving toward facebook
because they realize they get more bang for the buck.
Oh yeah I forgot it's free.

I think everyone agrees that Facebook is nothing like
    the sinking ship called Myspace.

    • If Facebook dies, I'm pretty sure its going to be a while (a looong while).

But the important thing to remember is to implement Facebook into your business now and to constantly watch out for changes.

If it begins to die, move on to the next thing. Always roll with the punches.
  • Certainly not within that time frame. Unless something else comes along that allows people all the same advantages but without the privacy violations that seem to occur. It would need a really big paradigm shift to see FB go so quickly.

  • Facebook CAN'T replace google, so write off anything you hear from THAT source!
  • I don't see it dying off, but I do see it growing into a massive advertising platform in some way. The one thing I don't like about Facebook is how they make changes and never let its user know. For example, I can recall several privacy changes that happened almost overnight and I never got any sort of notification. The only way I ended up finding out was through the grapevine and other friends statuses.

Websites like Facebook are great, but I think the general public doesn't use them cautiously and put a little too much of themselves out there. Also, while applications like FourSquare are great, if people are not careful when they use them, they could find themselves getting into situations that they could've avoided had they not recorded their every move at every point of the day.

With Facebook, I have a personal profile that I limit to only family members and close friends. I then use "fan pages" to promote my online businesses and other business ventures. But yeah - My personal page is very private. Too many weirdos and stalkers out there. You never know what could happen these days.

  • Facebook will not fade because of its all time coming members....
  • Facebook will most definitely be around for a very long time. You should not worry about them going anywhere anytime soon. And of course there will be lots of money to be made on facebook as well. All the best.
  • I don't use Facebook at all. I dont like it, but I recognise that millions around the world love it. I also believe that the owners, Zuckerberg etc, are naive and sometimes incompetent, arrogant even. The way they responded recently to hate pages and privacy concerns was pathetic. However with their incredible user base and advertising capacity they will be around for a long time to come. But to maximise their potential they either need to bring more experienced management on board or sell the business.

    • Immaterial - as long as Social Network marketing remains alive, why should I care whether it is Facebook or some other player?

By the way, personally I don't think Facebook is going to die anytime too soon.
  • I think these sites will be replaced with something better. We just don't know when. Before it was Yahoo, now we have Google. Before we had MySpace or Friendster and now it's Facebook. It changes in time.
  • well dont think so, orkut is dying soon may be, as per my views..
  • I think that even if the big interest goes obviously down it will survive forever or for many years.
  • Not a chance...First of all Facebook will never replace Google because they serve two completely different functions.

Both will be around for a long time because they have content which is always changing which get viewers to use it several times a day.
