Free hosting options...

The question is i have a couple domains i wanna use for affiliate marketing, but right now im not thinking spend any cash with hosting (i know its cheap), because i don't have any available cash.

What you think would be best?

Wordpress? Blogger? Google Sites?

  • Both of the above are good. But nowadays, if you can't afford the $5-$10/month for hosting, and want to actually establish a business, you probably shouldn't be doing this.

If instead you are just trying to tinker around and figure things out, then both options are good. Just google 'free hosting'.

Yes you can use them for AM, but guardedly. The TOS for Wordpress, Blogger, and Google Sites have set the standard for providing content and a good user experience and not affiliate marketing as the primary objective.

Again, you can pull it off just be selective in your plans.

Free hosting sites tend to attract spammers who expect to get shut down pretty quickly. Ditto for places that offer really cheap hosting. They also frequently give you very limited disk space, bandwidth, and serve up ads with your pages.

I interpret questions like this as follows:

"I really want to start my own business, but I can't find two nickels to contribute to it. Does anybody know of anyplace that I can set up shop for free, make some money, then move into a better spot when I make some money?"

It's like wanting to start a limo service and asking to borrow a stranger's 1978 Chevy Malibu and hoping you'll get some business.

    It just makes no sense!

You don't start building a house by saying you can't afford to pour a foundation.

You don't go on a vacation where you plan to sleep in homeless shelters.

Why do you want to start a business when you cannot even afford the single most critical part of the business -- basic web hosting in this case???

What's most amazing about this is ... we're not talking $1000! TEN BUCKS A MONTH is like ... the price of one Happy Meal or a hamburger or even a movie these days. (Cheaper than a movie if you include munchies!)

Most people pay more for their annual car registration than they'll need to spend on GOOD web hosting for a year.

    I just don't get it....

If you've got no money for hosting, write articles on EZA and redirect the domains to your affiliate offers.

Not ideal, but better than building a business on free hosting. At least with EZA you get SEO benefits, and if they approve your article, its not likely that they will pull it from underneath you later down the track.

I agree with a lot of these guys - If you don't have the extra $5 to $10 a month for hosting, then I would question the longevity you may have in internet marketing. Not trying to be negative, but IMO, $5 to $10 is incredibly easy to obtain by anyone. If hosting was $50 to $100 a month, then I could see where you're coming from.

When it comes to the game of marketing online and building a busiess (or anything, for that matter), you get what you put into it, plain and simple. If you're not willing to make an investment that is so small (and truly essential if you're in it for the long term), then this may not be the thing for you.

Find a good host and sign up for it. It'll be the best investment you've ever made.

It's pretty tough to make money online if you have nothing to invest/lose but I would say blogger is the best choice out of those. I messed around with a few affiliate things on there and never had any problems. And I DID get hits as well. WP seems to shut down any affiliate shenanigans really fast.

You could also try to build a twitter following -- free and they couldn't care less whether you're an affiliate or not.

Well, thanks guys for your answers.

Im thinking instead of just jump and try to make something with free hosting, i will invest in some hosting (probably hostgator), and try to make some bucks.

I already had make one sale with clickbank but i couldn't withdrawl the money, and one month after the sale the buyer ask for a refund. So the main question here for me is not the money i didn't have but see that i can make sales.

Now im just gonna start workings, and when available i will get a host.

    Once again thank you all.

I hear every one speaking about the ridiculous cost of hosting. Remember you guy are already established and probably can afford the cost of hosting.

Consider the individual who lives in a country where they are unable to make payment to the hosting company except to maybe make some money and then transfer payment via Paypal.

When I started IM I had ben unemployed for over 3yrs and on the verge of bankruptcy. I started with a free hosting solution at BYET. I was able to make some money however still not enough to move over to paid hosting.

What I am saying is sometimes we can't view the siuation from where we are but instead need to see the other person's perspective.

Just spend five bucks a month and get a package at Hostgator.
Free hosting means your content is controlled by someone else.

And Wordpress.com will remove your site if you are promoting anything. With Hostgator you can do a 2 click install of Wordpress.

If you are serious about your business then you need to spend a little money in the right places.

Normally I'd recommend paid hosting, however...
I believe that the FREE hosting option on Weebly is actually *better* than most hosting options where you pay $5-10 a month.

Here are some of their highlights:
    * Hosting Included - No Restrictions
We provide the hosting so you don't need to pay for a hosting provider.
We don't impose arbitrary bandwidth restrictions, storage caps or limits on the number of pages allowed, either. Going to be featured in the New York Times? Great! Our hosting infrastructure is backed by an army of servers that provide reliable stability for your websites - all for free!

    * No Advertising
We don't place advertising on your site, and never will.
Some "free" website providers force advertising to be placed on your site, but you won't find that around here. In fact, we've even integrated with Google AdSense to allow you to easily enable advertising - as simple as entering your email address - letting you earn money from your site!

    * Publish to Your Own Domain
If you already own your own domain, use it with Weebly, at no charge.
You can publish to your own domain name (ie. http//www.example.com instead of example.weebly.com) and we'll still host your website for free. You have the option to purchase a domain directly within Weebly which we instantly setup, or you can configure a domain that you already own!

Blogger or Google sites are part of Google Company.
From these two you can use blogger seems to be nicer.
But i recommend the paid hosting. Why?
Because you must have a support in case if something goes wrong and to not "wake up" next day looking at your work destroyed.

Surely you can think of something that can earn you about 5-7 dollars a month as that's what you have to spend on most hosting plans. If you are someone serious about starting an online business, then getting free hosting is not a good idea. I have had friends who lost their high PR blogs (in blogger) without even knowing why they got hit. You could scout around for cheap hosting. To me cheap hosting is better than free hosting as it gives you some peace of mind and you have full control over your website.
