I have a DUMBO Free lancer....what can I do???

Is he just not very experienced with computers, or is he a little, hm, slow in general?

And: Does he live close to you? E.g. could he do other boring but necessary stuff (like file papers etc) which would save you time and energy?

I can not understand why anyone would ever give work to someone they feel they can't fire. (Firing people used to be a major part of my working life). What possible reasons could there be to let someone mess up your business and you pay for the privilege?

There is always a way to cut someone loose...

Try a bit of lateral thinking - have you considered finding him some other work more suitable to his skills that pay better?

For instance, we had one guy who was seriously lazy but quite skilled, was really difficult for legal reasons to get him out. So, I called up`some head hunters and recruitment agencies in the field and gave them a 'tip off' that he was looking for a move. Sure enough, he got a new job and more money. He was happy - I was happy.

There's no such think as can't fire - you just haven't found the best way yet!

You run a business, not a charity, you have no obligations to this person, if they cant fulfill the requirements in their job description, then you are well within your rights to sack this person.

By your 'spent money' I'm assuming you paid him upfront? And now you want him to earn it in some way? I agree with everyone else in that business and personal lives should always be kept separate but can see you might want a return on your investment before you follow the excellent suggestions to send him on to pastures new...

So, yes, give him explicit tasks that preferably follow some kind of template, i.e. forum posting or social bookmarking. Work out for yourself when he will have earned back whatever sum you paid and then kindly let him go!

You must have hired him from digital point, i hired one person to create exit popup for one blog, at first he said that he can do this within 10 minutes, after 3 days he said that he dont know how to create it..lol

Personally, I wouldn't have him do any forum posting or article writing. After all, those are areas that will be a direct reflection of you to the public. You don't want a mistake of his to make you look less credible. And, in the case of forum posting, you won't even get to check his postings before they're submitted.

If you absolutely cannot fire him, maybe tell him to search for relevant forums, guest blog opportunities, etc., and pass them onto you. Then you can do the posting and the writing on sites that he found.

I don't know if this will help you but your best outcome is to help a competitor steal him/her from you. Years ago I hired my stand partner from a band. She spoke well, looked good and was extremely lazy (which I hadn't realized). She got offered a job by our upstairs neighbor (our landlord's business) when she went up to use their copier. Our owner was livid, I literally had to grab him to keep him from rushing up and yelling at them for stealing our help. A few weeks later their office manager was complaining to us about how lazy she was.

The fact that the freelancer has found someone still willing to pay him even though he has none of the skills required to earn the dollars for the job suggests that he's smarter than you're giving him credit for, and that if there's a 'dumbo' in this scenario then it's not him.

If you've fulfilled a promise to pay, then he should fulfill a promise to perform. You are doing your bottom line no favours by donating to him instead of insisting on a decent return on your investment, and you are doing him no favours either as his next gig could tarnish his reputation indefinitely if he does unwittingly encounter someone less 'charitable' than you are.

The tool in this case, is the freelancer. You hired them. Sorry to tell you this, but, they're smarter than you give them credit for - either that, or you expected more from them than they told you they could/would do.

Oh well I got many tools then why only one tool is defective...???

Can he spin articles?

Can he follow instructions mechanically? For example, find niches for you simply looking at Google Adwords keyword tool (after you teach him) and looking at the number of Google search results?

Can he use Google translator, and thus create English articles from non-English ones?

Can he manually submit articles to article directories? Can he use article directory submission tools?

Etc etc etc.

In the worst case, can he remain on the job but not come to work? If you cannot fire him, at least pay him to make sure that he deos not come to work - gives you some free time to do reall work.

Because no self respecting business owner I know would be making such a bad impression by being argumentative when asking for advice and doing it in terrible English. Look i understand many people are not English first language speakers, then humility is in order as you learn the ropes.
