  • Congratulations!

As you said, it's not too much, but it's great for someone who is just starting. It took me 2 years and more than 30 sites to make my first penny online, so you must be happy with your results!

Now, keep up the hard work and you will have your first $100 day soon!

  • Haha, Suuuuuuhwweeet! Way to go on sticking in there. If only people understood that persistence and perseverance are the "real" avenues to success. Coupled with consistent tweaking and learning 'til you find that sweet spot which makes money, all thats left to do then is rinse and repeat.

It is all downhill from here and I wish you the best of luck!

..and just think, if you build 100 sites that can get you the .11 each, thats $11 whole dollars!!

No seriously, that first hump is the newbie killer. Once you get over it and bank a little, things seem to just open up. Keep it up and congrats!

"seriously, that first hump is the newbie killer. Once you get over it and bank a little, things seem to just open up"

Thanks man. Ya. That's exactly why I posted this thread. It's just like you said. It seems once I get over the whole first hump I can see the light ahead now. I mean, now that I understand and am able to complete the process of getting a site up from nothing to making first dime, it seems like I can now just make more sites, try different niches and start backlinking. See what happens, test, and test and then move on.

    • Unfortunately, yes.

I started the wrong way, used traffic exchanges and lost a lot of time and money with MLMs and other schemes. Also, I'm not a native english speaker and had no money to hire writers to create content for me, so everything was hard! I could also mention my financial situation (I'm from Brazil and I used to earn in R$... US$1 = R$1.75...), but then this post would be very long...

However, after 2 years I found out a system that allowed me to start making some decent money and in few weeks I was earning a very good income. It then allowed me to hire a freelance writer to rewrite my sites and also buy a few good IM courses. For me, the first $1 was much harder than the first $1K.

    • At least he started 30 sites in two years. From what I have been reading, Gurus think 25-50% of readers of this forum will not have a site up in two years.

MarksExtra, you must have taken my approach..."Get something up even if it is wrong!"

My first year and a half was spent learning about black-hat techniques which were slapped by Google about the time I was ready to start building them. I spent a year too gun-shy to start anything else. Last year, I changed my approach and setup a site that made $25 in Adsense revenue its first year.

It's the learning curve that will get you! Every time I think I know everything I need to know to put up a site, I hit an unexpected problem I have to go research to find the answer, learn how to do it and then implement it. Of course, by the time I find out it's a problem, I have already spent an hour or more trying to get it to work.

Hang in there, Mark! You will make it! Congratulations!

Hey man keep up the hard work, and I am glad your seeing some results!
      • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • And now you know it works, Mark, and you can build on that. It won't always be pennies your adding up, but dollars instead. Take what you've learned and build on it, keep learning, and set your aim high. Good luck.

    • Wouldn't call $0.11/day "what works". Seriously now...

edit: it's funny to see so many people congratulate him on "sticking it out" and "making it". I can tell you now - $1/day takes exactly 8 hours of work (once). You may even get to $3/day if you're lucky. That does not mean that the "hard work is done". Not by a long stretch.

Its not that you made a few cents, its the fact that you see the possibilities of what could be with hard work and dedication...

  • Great work and congratulations, as you said.11 may not be alot but is for you when you make your first money online that is a great accomplishment.

The most important part is that you never gave up and continued to research and learn and it paid off. This is a great lesson for any newbie not to give up.

Some people try to make Internet marketing seem so easy and like there is no work involved. But honestly I have failed with more sites than I can remember and I think if everyone was being honest they would tell you the same thing. But with lots of trial and error as well as learning from my mistakes and continuing to learn and scale up my work I have created a system that works for me and my business model. And IM is a business just like any other business it takes work and yes you can save yourself from a lot of work through outsourcing but I think you should know how to do everything yourself before you outsource it or how are you going to be able to tell your people what you expect of them.

Anyway congrats great work keep it up and you will make even more money.

    Zac

  • Keep going at it and persistence will pay off.

Think of how much you have learned and what you can capitalize on.

  • Hey, congrats no your .11c! I know it feels awesome every time I get a click, even when it's one of those 1c clicks from one of my very old websites. I wish the best for you and hope you find a way to financial freedom through your work. I'm steadily seeing my adsense double every month. I think you'll find close to the same if you keep putting in a consistent effort. Congrats again.

If you want to share your work, I'm sure many of us would be more than happy to offer our suggestions on how to improve upon things!

For me - getting my first sale was what got me started... it made me realize that this was "real"!

    • I'd love to share what I've done, honestly, I could use the feedback, but the site is a little....well....ugly. I need a new header and I've got some logistics to still work out. feeds, social buttons,etc....it's kind of embarassing. I have noticed that the most dificult thing out of all the things I've been confronting has been the logistics of website design. I know what I want but transferring my thought to the page has been challenging. I have tried to outsource but honestly, at the end of the day, if you're going to do split testing(and you should) how are you going to keep contacting your outsourcer all the time and paying more and more? So that leaves me with having to learn WP and Xsitepro. Ugh.... I'll push forward but until I can get those down, my site still looks unrefined. So to sum up, even with advice on what I should change(and there are things that need changed) I'm stuck in the mud.

For me - getting my first sale is what it is all about too. It makes the whole thing real. It makes you believe. This could really happen.

  • Mark,
As a new addition to this forum
you are one who comes off completely honest
    and not blowing smoke.
Your honesty will be a great asset as you grow your business.
Your clients will see that and stay with you
because you just tell it as it is.
    Best of luck!
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • It is definately the beginning for you and now that you know what works you can improvie upon your third site, or the other 2 sites or an additional site.

Also, if you continue to work this the .11 cents will begin to grow into a much more sizeable amount.

Heck, I remember back in 2001 when I got tickled pink making $5 a day because it was an extra $150 a month which was almost my Jeep Wrangler payment.

    Respectfully,
    Tim
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Congratulations! I hope I can succeed also. ;-)
  • Well done ... Things can only get better now on your IM Journey ...
  • A little bit of light at the end of the tunnel better then just darkness.
  • 2 years without a penny. That's guts man. You are on my hero list. I read 95% of IM don't make it. I love every post about someone that sticks it out.

  • The key to success in life is persistence and learning from your mistakes and it looks like you have got that cracked. Congratulations now the only way is up. I would wish you good luck but with the winning attitude you have demonstrated so far you don't won't it.

  • It's great to hear honesty, battling along eighteen months later and $50 in the bank does not pay the bills. Keep going, stay grounded and slowly the parts start to fall into the right places. Good luck and keep going - I am.

    • Congrats on earning your first money online! Just keep doing what you're doing and build more sites. Even if you only build two sites a month, that's 24 sites in one year and even if they each site only made a couple cents each month, all that still adds up and I'm sure you'll get better and faster as time goes by.

Good job and don't ever give up.

  • If you figured out how to make 11 cents then you know how to make $1, $500, $20,000.
The concept is the same. Tweak and scale up.

    Good luck!
  • Well done! The important thing is to keep at it, a little bit here and a little bit there can add up to a lot. Multiple streams of income even in small amounts soon add up.
Best of luck for the future. Gordon
  • congratz...
    what a good start...
    keep learning, winner ^_^
  • That's a good start. Kept working & improve on it.
  • Congratulations on your affiliate sites starting to get traffic and actually pay you money.

Don't listen to the nay-sayers, I saw a story yesterday about a guy who started a store that has nothing but items that he sells for 99 cents. Everyone told him he was nuts because "We already have Dollar Stores!" Well, long story short, he is worth 600 million dollars now. He did the hard work and kept at it. You do the same.

As been said a thousand times or more on this forum, Affiliate marketing is simple... but it sure aint easy.

    • Congratulations Mark.

The key is just don't give up! And don't let naysayers pull you down.

Any sale, even 11c, is validation that you can do it. Learn what works and ramp it up.
      • [ 1 ] Thanks
    • I am a huge supporter of anyone who has the guts and the persistence to teach themselves what they need to know to start earning a living online.
I'm self-taught. I know it's a long hard road. There's nothing wrong with that...In fact, it's proof that you have some of the stuff needed to be successful.

Don't give up and don't let anyone ever steal your dreams, because they'll try and they'll label it "being realistic".

  • It's the difference between theory and realism.

I would say that's not much, I would say it's PRICELESS!

    Way to go!
    Michael
  • Congratulation for first step towards online success, I still remember when i got my first sale.. I was bit excited and was keep refreshing my clickbank account just to see some more sales..lol
  • Yeah sure you made .11 cents, that's what they all say! I want to see PROOF of INCOME!

LOL, just kidding, great job! Going from making nothing online to making something is a big hurdle. You've done it so keep on going.

Nice car by the way, looks like about a "67" Chevelle.

    • Congratulations! I missed when your first post about the .11 cents profit and just now read the whole thread. Good for you and thanks for posting. I remember my first profit many years ago was from eBay so it was not as exciting. Even now I am happy even with the very small amounts. They not only add up it means you are going in the right direction.

That has to be the funniest post in this thread. Thanks for the laugh.

Also thanks for the updates MarksExtra. Keep up the good work.
      • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • This sounds refreshing! And let me tell you: For 6 weeks you did great...Keep it going, your attitude is great.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • First, let me say "thank you" to all of you have given me words of encouragement. I really appreciate them all. For weeks I just kept saying to myself "I can do this" "I can do this". Wow. And now it's actually happening. Weird.

Second, I never intended to spark any kind of debate in this thread. I only meant to spread a little happiness. That's it. As I mentioned in my first post, I realize it's not alot of money, but the great thing about my accomplishment is the fact that I was able to conquer alot of completely foreign steps, tools, and concepts that got me to this point. At this point I know for a fact I can put up a website. That is one sweeeet thing for me.

I know I have a long way to go. Hard work? Sure. But let me tell ya, I don't mind hard work one bit. I'm used to it. You see, I'm a concrete mason by trade. Yup. Just a grunt that's been bustin' his back for a long time. Worked my way through college, then grad school. Still bustin' my back doin' masonry to get the bills paid. Masonry; to me; now that's tough work. I actually like the IM industry. You know what they say. "Find a job you love and you'll never work another day in your life" or something like that.

On another note: I quadrupled my earnings. I made .49cents today! I know. Go ahead and laugh; but like I said, it's about the knowledge. The way I figure it, I'm on my way to earning my first dollar in internet marketing! Maybe tomorrow will be the day. Maybe the next. Who knows. The sky is the limit.

    • Very cool - I visited this thread again in the hopes that you would be providing another update and that the amount earned had increased.

      Glad to see it did.

Keep at it buddy, there are plenty of people that made their initial post in this forum and other marketing forums when they were just getting started out and sveral years later they are doing extemely well.

Granted some achieved success quicker then others and some better then others but the point is we all started with a dream to earn money online.

      Tim

  • I still remember my first adsense dollar. Of course I never made enough adsense money to get an actual check from them. I switched to better ventures....

But still it is a great feeling. Wait til you sell your first ebook. Or have your first $100 day....

    • Congratulations! I know exactly how you feel. I am a newbie too. When I made my first CB sale about a week after I started I saw that it could work and I knew I was on the right track. I was over the moon too. After you know that whatever you are doing is working so just continue learning and doing. I'm keeping it simple for now and that's working for me.
      • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Making money on adsense proves that you can drive traffic to your website. Now take that ability and use it to promote more expensive products.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Well, after all the comments, I started reflecting on my site a bit and I think that a couple of the reasons I'm not making enough money are: first, I don't think I have the right niche. For example. A niche like penis enlargement, acne, dieting, are niches where the customer really wants/needs something and would rather purchase it online and will find the money to buy it. Niches like boats, watches, gambling, vacations etc. are luxury items where the customer obviously has money to spend. My niche does not fall into one of these categories. Second: I'm just not getting enough traffic. I could promote my site in other ways, but I'm not sure I want to spend the valuable time to do so if it doesn't qualify as a site where people want to spend money.
What made me think about niche selection? Well, I got a message from EZine articles saying I made platinum author status. Very cool I thought. I'll go check it out. Well, when I get there I got to looking at my articles and see that I had submitted a concrete article amoung the many others. The concrete article was the only black sheep article; meaning it was the only off-topic article. Funny thing is; that article has been read by twice as many people than my other 9 articles combined! huh? It was just a stupid filler article I wrote one day because I didn't know what to write about and I had some knowledge about concrete. The point I'm making is that who would have thought that a concrete article would have sparked so much interest? You can find the article here:

    http://thesealersite.com/2010/07/05/...ers-explained/

Now, besides talking about specific niche selection. Another factor to consider is luck. You never know when you might find a winner. With all that in mind, I think I will take my knowlege and apply it to a better niche and see what happens.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • You now need to check if this was a one iff or if you can make this the next week. If it works, multiply your production of what you are doing. I made 1400 dollars in one sale last week. It took me 4 years to start going online through click bank and websites, although I did used to own a successful hosting company before that. It's all about persistence and love. But do remember as soon as the spark with a website has gone, sell it off. If you don't have the love for it you won't get the love back.

Best of luck in the future and if you need any help on reaching your goals, please do give me a shout.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Congratz! One day you will make $1000/day.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Ok. up to $2.93 with adsense and $19.50 with cpa. It's working, little by little.

    ActualOnlineJobs.com

If anyone wants to make me up a header for the site, I'll gladly pay you for it.
  • I'd really love to even get pennies at this moment.

    Great post.
    • [1] reply
    • Keep at it. I realize it's easier said than done, but I just keep pluggin away. One of the things that keeps me going is this: If I was working any other job, where would I be in 5 years of working that job. The answser is inevitably the same......nowhere or the same place I am now. Then I look at Affiliate marketing(AM). I think of where I'll be 5 years from now with AM. The answer to that is a lot more optimistic. I do the same thing with my education. I could work for 5 years and at the end have the result of having worked for 5 years. OR, I could work and go to school for 5 years and have the result of having worked for 5 years plus a degree. Yes, 5 years is along time when you're on the front end. But looking back at how fast time goes. 5 years is nothing. If that makes sense, I hope that helps.
  • Great work! Every win counts! Congratulations!
  • Ok. Back from the dead. I just wanted to give a quick update. So, yes, I've actually stuck with it. Who would have thought.

I've made my mistakes and made some progress in the last couple years. Probably started and lost 20 sites. But some have succeeded and I've passed the $1000 dollar mark in passive income. I'm heading toward the next level. It's been a roller coaster, but it sure has been fun.

I'm here to tell ya, if I can do it, ANYONE can do it.

To this day, I'm no webmaster. I still have trouble transforming ideas onto websites, but I've learned to just outsource the design. Once I get the base down, I can then tweek things myself. It makes the process go quicker.

Lesson learned: Find something you're passionate about and start an authority site. It's always easier to stick with it if you like the subject.

    Thank you .11cents! LOL

Well....Kinda. After a 6 weeks of being in affiliate marketing, I've failed, gotten pissed, tried again, failed again, gotten more pissed, spent money, researched my arse off, read some more, tried again, failed again, read more and tried again and finally when I published my third site, I was able to reach #5 on google broad search 6 million results and #1 on yahoo broad search 115 million resuts after only 17 days of having the site up! With that said, I've hit the big time cause I just made my first .11 cents yesterday. Woohoo! That's almost .02 cents a week I'm bankin'!
