What are the different ways to use articles?

Haven't had to use or write them much, but now trying to get my head around a few simple concepts:

What are the different reasons and applications (eg traffic, SEO, content etc) for:

Writing articles for your own site?
vs
Writing articles for article directories?
vs
Using articles from directories as content on a site?

And if you've any other ways of using them that you can comment on, then please include them too!

Writing articles for your own site?
Advantage: This is good, because you can build up traffic to your own site, and your site becomes an asset of content, aslong as you keep increasing the amount of articles on your site.

    Writing articles for article directories?
Advantage: These are high authoritiy sites (such as EZA) so you can get some good backlink juice from them to your own site url, from these high PR authority article sites. (I would stick to about 30-40 of them)
    Disadvantage:

Using articles from directories as content on a site?
Advantage: You have to include the article authors resource URL, rather than just taking article body. This can cause the visitors who land on your site to click that persons link, and Leave your site so a potential lose in a customer.

So with writing articles for directories - the technique would be to write about what's on your site, or about subjects or niches covered by your site, to get the link but also get them to want to read more on you site?

And as for using articles from directories as content on a site - this isn't good unless the content isn't what you keep, people on the site with? - eg If I use articles to make up a niche site that I really want to use to host LPs for CPA offers.

Any other uses, or advantages vs disadvantages of these techniques?

You should put your articles on your own site before you put them anywhere else. Why give someone else the credit for your work?

Submitting to article directories helps you leverage their authority and reach. Plus, you get the backlinks to your own site.

But why stop at article directories? It's not hard to turn your articles into videos, audio's, PDF's... opens up a whole new world of possibilities where you can reach a whole new audience.

From an SEO perspective, I am not sure it really matters if you submit to the directory or your blog/site first.

The directory has the high PR-boost advantage and may out rank the same page on your site.

But your site could have a better optimized domain name and more relevant back links, that despite have less "Domain PR" will attract a higher spot in Google than say EZA.

I've seen it happen both ways, so it depends on the situation.

Remember that the EZA PR-boost may be short lived once you come off the new articles page. However some EZA pages get a good PR all of their own, without back-linking, if you get lucky!

I don't get your question correctly. However, I suggest you to write good content for your visitor ,not for Search Engine. You can research online, it's ok. But never try to copy anything......
