Do I feel lucky?

Dear Warriors,

It's now been six months since my hard drive crashed, losing all my WSOs and heaps of other vital stuff.

A reminder has just come up on my PC telling me to do another backup, so I urge you to do the same. Think what would happen if your hard drive crashed tomorrow.

Now I know what you're thinking. "Was it six months since I backed up, or only five?" Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as this is a 1TB hard drive, the most powerful hard drive in the world, and would blow your business clean away if it crashed, you've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya?

    My computer is my livelihood so I've used Carbonite since last year and it's already saved me since I installed it. I don't have to remember to backup anything, it does it all automatically. I highly recommend using this type of service because who can remember to do backups?

      Hey Peter

      How annoying is that? We both have 1 terrabyte external hard-drives as welll as other protections for our stuff.

      BTW - saw a 1 terrabyte for only $100 the other day from a group in Sydney.

      I thought I'd better post the original, for all those younger Warriors who may have missed the allusion (after all, it was nearly 40 years ago) - here's the incomparable Clint:

      Seriously, though, I went out yesterday and bought yet another 1TB hard drive (Bron: cost me $135 at JB Hi-Fi) as yet another back-up - the nightmares from that original hard drive crash are still too fresh, so I can't be too careful. By the way, the hard drive that crashed was less than a year old, and it was going to cost me $1,600 to get back the material on it.

      So, Warriors, don't think it can't happen to you - back up now, and then put it on your calendar to do it again. Why not do it every week, say, overnight?

    These days I use Online Backup - IDrive - Remote Data Backup - For Windows and Mac - IDrive Portable Hard Drive

    Can recommend them. Excellent service, monitors the various files & directories I tell it to, then automatically uploads any changes every 24 hours.

      Nowadays, I do backup regularly but, even if I lost everything on my hard drive it wouldn't be such a disaster.

      It took me a while to realize what's inside my head is a thousand times more important than what's on my computer.

      Exactly.. Def do online backup if you have a little extra change in your pocket. I have several harddrives so no worries for me.. but if they all crashed I'd be screwed. Not just with IM but all of my music stuff.
