Computer Screen Syndrome - AH MY EYES!

So, this is kind of off topic but I guess it applies to all IMer's...

The last four days I've been doing 12 hour days on my laptop as well as spending one day up for almost 24 hours straight.

I'm noticing when I leave the computer screen my eyes are kinda dry and my eyesight is kind of blurry and I'm just kind of, well, not oriented right for a bit.

Anybody else experience things like this after long days? Maybe I need to take a day off.

    Yes, it's called eye strain.

There is a number of things I do to reduce it.

First, dim your monitor as low as you can and turn on light behind your head so that you can see the screen.

I also have a pair of anti-glare computer glasses, however I can't recall the name of them at the moment.

    They work a little bit.

Also, the moment you feel your eyes start to strain out, quickly glance away from your computer and walk outside for a bit. Your eyes arent designed to focus on one object at a certain distance for too long. You need to vary what all you look at.

Yeah- it's eyestrain. About every 15 minutes, look away from the computer - outside if you are near a window - or walk outside, as Daniel said, if not and focus far away for a while. Also try to close your eyes and roll them around a bit (kind of like shaking out your hand if you've been click-click-clicking with the mouse too much or typing too long).

You have muscles in your eyes that help you focus - and they get sore and tired. Give them some breaks.

P.S. Quit with the 24 hours things - lol - that will make you lose focus just as well as a bottle of hard liquour.

Whew thank you to both of you for the responses. I appreciate it. I guess I just never really had this problem. I used to play 48 hour poker sessions online and just play until I passed out and it never used to happen, then again I would watch TV simultaneously so I was never staring at the computer that long.

I need to learn to blink more I think as well.

I appreciate the tips though, I thought for awhile that maybe I was just going crazy or got mad cow disease from the food I ate the other day, now I realize, it's just a little eye strain. Crisis averted. WHEW.

Yes. Usually I stay in front of my computer for 14 hours and I know exacly what you feel. What I do now is to have eye-drops beside of me and try to take breaks when I remember. I tried to set off the alarm clock but I automatically turn it off and keep on working.

Just be ware that it is not good for your eyes.

I just love this Internet Marketing thing and I can't stay away from my computer too

Yeah, I never used to get it either.

Just one day it started to happen. I thought for sure I was having some serious eye problems or something.

A quick nap always helps my eyes relax.

Smoking weed helps a lot too Just a suggestion, not claiming anything there hehehe.

LMAO the latter of all those suggestions I actually thought about when I was in the shower! I haven't in awhile and I used to all the time when I was building products, it helps me focus and reduces my ADD too.

AHA gets expensive with takeout food though.

You and I are on the same page, definitely on the same page. <-- Big GREEN smile.

Anybody know a good program that you can set a reminder or something to pop up on set intervals? If not I'll just program one in vb.net really quickly and hand it out.

This happens to me all the time as well. Just gotta take breaks I suppose. As for the weed thing. Yeah, I've written some of my best performing email sales copy under the influence. Definitely helps with my lack of creativity.

          Cheers

I keep eye drops by the computer for this purpose. Also, watch out for your wrists, too - once they start to go, they go fast. I now have carpal tunnel from spending so much time on the computer.
