I got my website built and the video played as soon as you go to my site automatically. Now couple weeks later, the video not only doesnt play automatically, it also doesnt work if you press play????????

i have my own hosting, but i honestly dont want to go in and try to mess with it unless i know what im doing.

any ideas why this happened.... or how i can fix it ???

the person who i paid to make my site is conveniently out of town for a week and i dont want to wait that long if i dont have to..... its an important part of my site ...... thanks guys

  • If the video is on your own hosting it could be a bandwidth issue.

This is a common problem if your video is hosted in the same place as your website - I don't know if this is the case for you - but it is not a good idea to have your video stored on the same server as your website.

It may also be a coding issue with the player.

You'll need to provide more detail on your setup.

    • i purchased the video here on the forum, its basically a sales video, like 30 seconds long....i sent the video to my webdesigner and told him i want it on my homepage..... it played automatically at first , no it doesnt play at all, i dont know anything about coding at all......
  • Is the video hosted on your site? Have you contacted your host? You may have used up your traffic allowance for this month....

Are you using a wordpress site? Did you upgrade any plugins?

    • no not wordpress, no plugins..... i have a hosting account with hostgator, and this is my only site..... so i dont think it is a bandwith issue .... what baffles me is why would it play at first then all of a sudden not play??
  • Why would you host video on your own site? Look into Amazon S3 for all of your video and multimedia hosting. Do some Googling for great addons for streaming video hosted there.

    • i have hosting with hostgator.....i have a video on my homepage..... this is my only site , so i hope that its not a bandwith issue...... this is just a simple video used to help sell my services...... my site is Advanced Consulting Group

  • Just clarifying - Is your video hosted on your Hostgater server?

And is it the same server as your website?

If so - then you will have problems.

We really need to know where the video is physically stored. It may be that your web designer put the video on his own server and he has subsequently moved or deleted it. I have seen this situation before.

The best option is to have the video stored on an Amazon S3 account that you own with your website on a separate hosting server (such as hostgator).

You need to find out your exact setup.

    • thanks alot for your response......... here is my problem,i have no idea where the video is stored....i thought that it was just a part of my homepage..... i guess i didnt realize to put a simple video on my homepage required me to have it stored somewhere or anything like that..... because ive never built a website, i guess i thought it was way more uncomplicated than what your saying......... i thought that having a pre made video on my homepage would be as easy as having a video plugged into my homepage , i guesss its not, again what would cause it to work fine then suddenly not work???? anybody know???

  • I have found your problem. In the code on your website your video is pointing to this url: http://www.vbinfotech.com/test/img/Localsearch.flv there is nothing there. It needs to point to this:
    http://www.needmorebiz.com/img/Localsearch.flv

PM me if you need help w/ it.
