    Hi Steve,

    This link will help:

    Installing WordPress WordPress Codex

Read it all through carefully. There are detailed instructions below the "5 minute
install" and I think you should be in a better place of understanding when you're
    done.

Then come back here with any questions you still have.

    Good luck.

    Hi Steve.

I don't know if this will help you. I am not good with the technical side of setting things up so I contacted the Support for my host and the guy did it all for me.

Please make sure you keep your login details safe as it is really hard to get in if you loose it.

    God bless

    Hi Steve,

You asked, "upload what were and how?"

    Do you have web hosting?

The blog you're describing is not like the one in your sig - the one in your sig is hosted by Wordpress.com - it's sort of a wordpress version of Blogger because your blog is on their website rather than on yours.

The blog you're describing in your post is the version of Wordpress that website owners upload to their own website on their web host.

To use the version that you have unpacked onto your desktop you will need to upload all of those files to your website or web host.

If you do not have webhosting you can always get another blog at Wordpress.com or at Blogger and let them host your blogs.

... and if you do have hosting with someone, check if it has cpanel and if it does you'll be able to do a pretty much automated install via the fantastico panel ... makes life very easy.

Assuming you got the first 3 steps right, for step 4, you need to get ahold of an ftp program such as coreftp, cuteftp, or similar.

If you don't know how to use such a program, PM me and I'll give you more instructions.

CP (control panel)? If your hosting has CP then just navigate to the FANTASTICO icon and install WP that way!

It just takes a few clicks and is waaaaaaaaaaaay easier! Even I do it now in 5 mins, whereas when I first tried to do this it would take me a whole morning!

      Good luck.

          Glad you figured it out!

If you do a search of this forum or Google "WP Themes" or "Free WP Themes", then you'll find a whole load of themes to choose from!

Be warned though, you can waste a whole load of time trying to find the perfect theme!

          Good luck!

To make life easy I would get a widget-enabled theme.

    Hi Steve,

I found that if you get a domain name with godaddy and hosting account, you could easliy set up a wordpress blog inside of godaddys panel. They have a wizard, which is just a few clicks of your mouse, plus the blog is hosted on your own domain name.
