Is this hostgator email a spoof or genuine?

Hi guys,

I got an email from alert@hostgator.com and after reading it, I think it's a fake. But I want to be sure. Below is their email. (When I hover around the link http://secure.hostgator.com/webhosting below, I can see that it will direct to a nofeehost.com/... page, so I perceived it as a red sign)

Here's the email:

Dear Customer, During our regularly scheduled account maintenance and verification procedures, we have detected a slight error in your hosting account information. Spoof. Phishing, to be exact. Don't click.

(Yes, I've seen them before - and a number of variations on the same theme.)

A standard phrase used by scammers before asking you for your password and/or your credit card details. Often they use it at the start of fake bank emails.

Send an email to support@hostgator(dot)com - they will answer any questions or use the ticketing system provided on the site

Also send them a copy of the email so they are aware of it

    Searched - hostgator phishing

spoof ... don't click on it. Only update hostgator info while you're in your hostgator cpanel. Same with any site ... paypal, godaddy, namecheap, etc. Always update info at the site.

Just think of it. Does hostgator have your name on record? I think they do, so why would they start a mail to you, their customer whose name they have, with "Dear Customer". When I get a mail like that it immediately goes in my spam box. And when I get mails from hostgator or paypal that do use my name, I'd still not click any links in the mail, I just would login through their site. Better to be safe then sorry.
