Sell or Promote a Ebook - Which is more profitable?

What is your opinion on this?

I'm so torn right now.

Promoting a Clickbank product is simple, free, but I feel like it might be tougher to make sales if I'm article marketing, promoting another person's product. Luckily the product I'm thinking of promoting actually lets you collect opt-ins, but still, I feel like there is a negative somewhere.

While writing my own ebook seems nice, but I'm noticing how much that's going to cost. Paypal is going to take a cut. My payment processor is going to take a cut. Plus I wonder how much my sales page would be than some proven clickbank product that already converts. I'm going to have charge alot for this ebook, just to even make it worth it. Unless someone knows how to sell an ebook without your profits being cut 2-3 different ways before it even gets to you.

  • Usually it´s always better to be a merchant than an affiliate. Assuming you have a product that sells.

    I wouldn´t worry about Paypal´s or Clickbank´s share.

First you don´t have competition for your product. Or it must be affiliates selling your product. If they win from you, selling more than you, you still win because they earn money for you.

Havin your own product gives you a higher advertising budget and you do not have the bridge page problem.
With your own product you have the email addresses from the buyers, as an affiliate you have no idea who bought something and you cannot offer them any backend products.

Thanks for the comments. I have a few things to add.

This particular affiliate offer actually lets you opt-in your customers. So that isn't a problem.

This is my first time making an ebook, and doing all this aweber, squeeze page crap, so no, I'm not confident that my product sells.

I won't be "advertising" if you mean adwords or PPC.

My ebook is 20 dollars as well. If I went through clickbank, they would charge me 50 dollars to be a seller, take 7% of every sale I make, and paypal would take 2% of every sale I make. And I haven't even mentioned if I protect it my protect from being stolen.

You still think that making your own ebook is a better choice? I'm still trying to figure out how people sell their ebooks for such a low price, and make money when so much of your profit is taken away from you.

You also have to take into consideration how much time you will have to put in to make your own products. Most people are not willing to put in the time.

Promoting clickbank products are great way to make cash if there tracking is 100% real, but i really doubt that.

  • They may earn a lot of backend sales. People that bought something are more likely to buy more.

I agree, writing an ebook is not easy andd takes a lot of time. One of the reasons I haven´t made my own so far. But I think it can be done. Besides a good ebook (lots of Clickbank books aren´t better than lots of WSOs) you need a good converting sales page. You should pay the money a good graphics designer costs. And may be a little overdelivering for the price of the product, to reduce refunds.
