I just got an email from myself for the original Viagra web site. I was curious as to how I could have sent myself an email for Viagra, so I clicked on it to see what crap was in it.

Sure enough, two graphics, neither of which loaded into my email. I just wonder if people can make money sending out this stupid crap. I guess they must as I get a few almost every day. Fortunately they all go into my SPAM folder, but I have to double check to make sure that nothing important goes into that folder and so I find stuff like this.

I am always curious how they get my email. I don't frequent those type of web sites. All of my activity in the past couple of years has been restricted to offers in Warrior Forum. So are Warriors selling my email addy? I guess they must be.

    Dont blame the warriors.

I would blame your self-conscious. Maybe your split personality is hinting at something by sending those emails.....

Maybe. But it's probably more likely that your email has been scraped or "guessed." For example, some forums make email addresses viewable. And if you've ever posted your email anywhere on the web, a bot could easily scrape it and add it to a list.

Sometimes these spammers just send out emails to common addresses. For example, "webmaster@example.com" or "info@example.com." If you have any common addresses like that, the spammers don't even need to scrape or acquire the address.

Another possibility: Some spammers have hacked into some big list providers, like Aweber.com. I don't know how, exactly, it works (I'm not a techie). But they got a hold of folks' addresses. So if you've ever signed up for a list at mailing list company, a hacker could have gotten your address that way.

Those are just a few ways for spammers to get your address... there are others.

    Cheers,
    Becky

yes... or spam wouldn't have survived this long

I am always curious how they get my email.
Bots... randomizers... some spammers don't "collect" emails, they just make them up!
If you create a gazillion of random emails with domains that are owned maybe a few
millions will reach someone...and a few thousand will check them (if not more - how
many new "newbies" go online every day?), some will even click the link...and so at
least some will either have their pc infested with malware or maybe even actually go
    ahead and buy.

In any case, the spammer got what s/he wanted: data, commissions, confirmation
of the validity of an address - just loading the images can confirm your address...it
was a tactic in vogue some years ago with legit marketers who wanted to see how
many on their list actually opened their emails!

If the image is hosted on your server and you can check the logs you can see which
domains accessed it...or something like that...I used to go thorough my own server
logs religiously to see who visited my site and how they got there...obviously with
spammers and the numbers they deal in it's all automated - create a gazillion emails
(admin at wherever, names at whatever, x at y, etc), see how many millions don't
bounce, of these how many get clicked... Voila: a new mailing list of thousands
of confirmed emails to sell over and over again to other spammers

rinse and repeat (with automated bots) a million times a day and hey, you might
even break even, as well as risk being either sued or fined and/or arrested obviously!

    ...or something like that ;°)

    Cheers!
    Saul

Ps. and yeah, stop sending yourself those viagra mails ;°) lol!

I get about ten of those a day from "myself", apparently I need to "satisfy my women more" as well.. It's funny, because I'm not sure why these spammas think at 15 I need viagra.

There not very good at targeting who they spam, are they?
