The wake-up call I got today from a UFC champion

UFC champion George St-Pierre was interviewed the other day and his interview was posted on the Yahoo! homepage. What I read gave me new found vigor for what I am actively doing to achieve success online.

Here's the jist of the article.

GSP has a goal of being the best pound for pound fighter in the world. Currently, he's the UFC middleweight champion.

His goals were as follows:

Become a professional fighter...DONE

Become a UFC fighter...DONE

Become a UFC champion...DONE

Become the best pound for pound fighter in the world...WE'LL SEE

He said that he always sets his goals HIGH.

Now here's the rub.

Are your goals clearly laid out? Do you set your goals high and actively work on achieving them? Or are you just actively working?

For me...I found that I was just actively working. I write articles, blogs, posts and blah, blah, blah.

But for what?

I thought, damn, I need to get focused again. It truly was a great wake-up call and I'm glad I read the article. Here's the link in case you'd like to read it too... UFC champ St-Pierre would consider retirement after Silva win, top-fighter ranking - UFC - Yahoo! Sports

So basically my homework for tonight is this...

Write down exactly what the hell I want out of this whole IM gig anyway. I'm also involved with The Challenge, so I'm sure that'll help.

I so receive clickbank checks every 2 weeks, just not big ones yet.

For anyone who's just actively working I'd suggest you check out the article. Maybe it'll light a fire under your a$$ too.

Thank for all your help here in the WF. It's a jolly good place...jolly good indeed.

Good times and fuzzy bunnies

Shane

P.S. You never know where you'll find inspiration. So keep you eyes and your minds open savvy?

Yeah, when you have a goal that inspires you then you just get a lot more motivation and drive to work so much harder, and also, you get the nice bonus of becoming super happy when you do reach your goal.

Having well defined goals is the key. Once that is done, it does help one to stay nicely focussed enough to achieve it.

Often the way we keep running around daily with routine tasks, we fail to realize that we are headed in the wrong direction.

    Thanks for sharing this.

Nice post Shane. GSP is the greatest MMA champion of all time in my view exactly because he at peak condition both externally and internally.

He quoted something from Michelangelo that I absolutely loved, and that I live by myself.

He said the worst thing in life is not to set your goals too high and never reach them. It is to set your goals too low and meet them.

He believes that you should always set your goals just above what you think you can actually do.

I think he is spot on here because in almost all cases we can indeed achieve more than our limiting beliefs would allow us.

By setting the bar just above the level we think we can jump we stretch our capacity to achieve to greater and greater heights.

GSP is living proof of that.

When setting goals now I ask myself what do I "realistically" think I can achieve. Then I add 10% - 50% on top of that and aim for it.

Here's the actual un-GSP'd quote from Michelangelo:

"The greater danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we hit it."

    ~ Michelangelo
