I just set up word press on a subdomain. I am asking people to sign up to comment. They get an email with password. That email shows coming from the main domain admin account. How do I get WP to send the password email from a different account?

      Something like this?
      CPA Reviews

Probably any simple theme would work with the use of a plugin.

      Hi,

Fonts are normally controlled by your theme.

      As opposed to plugins.

Check out your stylesheet...usually called styles.css

You can change the font easily in there...look for any kind of font name, and put a different one in front of it...so...it might look like this:

      .p {

      font-family: verdana, arial, sans serif;

      }

      Change it to...

      .p {

      font-family: *some other font, but make sure it's a web font..e.g. Georgia*, verdana, etc;

      }

Keep a backup of the original CSS file...and play around to your heart's content!

Great thread... and one which will benefit all who read it, I suspect.

Question (I know the answer, so don't knock yourself out):

My plugin conflicts with XYZ plugin...How do I fix it!?!?!?"

I just deactivate one of the plugins, myself. That's beyond my scope otherwise, since I am not a programmer. If I really had to have both working, I'd contact the plugin developers.

Wordpress newbie here. Had a comment on my blog (sig) that my rss feed wasn't the right one.

Wordpress docs say I need to choose one of 4-5 different feed urls.

Wich one do I need? How do I test it to know it's working correctly?

I would almost put money on it that your RSS comment was a spam comment. I've had similar ones that my site did not show up correctly with XYZ browser (always an obscure one I'd never even heard of.)

I am interested in controlling the admin menu, using AJAX, programming, just my wishlist, of things I wish WP did better than it currently does now.

    @Steven Fullman

I do a lot of plugin testing and when something goes badly wrong, with a plugin, I try to de activate, but if that fails, I manually delete it, that usually cures the problem until I can try it again, with hopefully better results.

    If I understand your question:

    Users>General>then change email address

or if you use a contact form plugin, you can usually specify it within the plugin admin.

A theme has to have at least 2 [two] Page templates to display the template selection option for Pages.
One has to be the default page.php and another one could be your own.

If your theme doesn't have a page.php template file - save your index.php as page.php and it should work.

Just for the record for anybody reading this thread: themes and templates are NOT the same things in WP, so you can NOT use them as if they were interchangeable synonyms!

It depends. I may not win friends saying this, but Joomla is probably better for that.

You can use most themes to sell products. We do it all the time and much faster and easier to set up than Joomla.

Here is one of our sites that does quite well as an example.

      Hi Abdul:

I recently came across a site that may work perfect for what you are looking to do. You can check it out at Amazon Associate Stores. If you want to see an actual one, mine is at http://fatfighterscorner.associatestores.com/ .

I have only been a member for about three weeks but I really like the program.

Ok, I'll try one for fun.

A plug-in, or plug-ins, that play nice together
so I can have an ecommerce page up with shopping
cart and payment processing to sell either my products,
and/or affiliate products that will also build
a membership site and/or forum and take single or
      recurring payments.
Free would be great, but a reasonable price is acceptable.

Alright masters of the wordpress, see if that doesn't
give you a headache finding a solution (free or under $200 )

Been there, done that. Ultimately went with Joomla!. Can it be done with wordpress? Sure, for basic stuff or with a huge amount of work, customizing, creating and inventing stuff. Can it be done with Joomla! out of the box? Nope. Sorry.

All of that is pretty simple except for selling affiliate products as you do not actually receive the payments so that is pretty well impossible but with this set of plugins that all integrate together you can enlist your own affiliates.

        And all for under $100

Why does wordpress load so slow? Even though I use a light theme with no heavy images, it still loads slow.

In fact, no matter what wordpress theme I use, it still loads slower then my vbulletin forum.

I would guess you are using Godaddy hosting. (Or another host that that doesn't use their mysql database locally)

Or you are using plugins that pull information from 3rd party sites (ad widgets/social widgets/rss feeds...etc)

I did a step by step guide about wp, and would like some feedback from an expert to see if there are easier/faster/better ways to do what I do.

I got into wordpress "old", after several years administering and building big websites so I have ways to do things that might not be the most newbie friendly.

could someone who is really into wp check it out for me?

how many plugins have you installed? The more plugins you are using the more it will slow things down.Do you have a caching plugin such as WP cache installed? A caching plugin will speed things up enormously.

In your cPanel you can install it via Fantastico De Luxe. Otherwise you would unpack all the files locally and upload them via your FTP client.

        Please do not use Fantastico

1 - You dont learn anything, when it comes time to update your blog due to a security issue, your not going to have a clue on how to do it.

2 - Fantastico does not always install the most recent version. This could leave the blog open to security issues.

By downloading and installing the blog software manually - your assured that your getting the latest version, and your getting hands on experience.

WordPress question - I am posting a new article and forget how to add a link in the text. I remember I used to highlight the source (i.e. site name, magazine url, etc.) and then click on something. I don't see it now. Can you help me out?

    1. Highlight and copy the URL from the address bar of your browser
    2. Highlight the word/phrase in your text that would be the link/anchor text
    3. Click on the "Link" button in the toolbar of the WP posting area
    4. A popup window will appear where you can paste the copied URL

    That's it.

Are you asking about plug-ins? If so,

If you allow comments on your blog - Some kind of comment spam protection and nofollow

      And that is about it.

And maybe a sitemap generator - but you can always submit your rss feed as a site map, so this on is not really needed.

Why would anyone want 20 widgets to start with? Wordpress is already slow enough.

I will start with your last question.

It is never really "necessary" to update for the sake of update/upgrade.
And, especially, in the case of major releases like 3 it is worth to wait to see if there will be a quick 3.0.1 or something similar to address the inevitable small bugs.

There can be many benefits if the new features in WP 3.0 are used wisely.
      - managing all your blogs (WP sites) from one central admin panel by using the new MultiSite capability; and related to it:
      - domain mapping, i.e. the multiple sites having their own domain
      - having custom menus without messing with the code
      - using custom single post templates
(- there is even a custom_post_type new feature in the DB but that will be too technical for most of the WP users)
      - you can migrate all your existing WP sites/blogs into one single installation for easier management

It is worth experimenting with it

      Hi Rick

I think many people are asking themselves the same question at the moment, it's apparently using more resources due to the integrated new features.
Like almost any WP when installing additional plugins it tends to slow up a little untill the setting have been adjusted with further plugins. Things like clearing/refreshing the cache.
WP 3 has many new features that replace the necessity of other plugins on the market and as Istvan suggested:
it is worth to wait to see if there will be a quick 3.0.1
once the teething problems have been sorted out.

As with any new system, other plugins that have been used to date will probably also have to be revised and adjusted accordingly to eliminate any clashing automated settings.

            Hi ,
do you have cPannel on your server, if so delete the existing wp and re-install via cPannel (Fanatico deLux), this way the process is automated, so avoiding mistakes.

I have just gone thru Bluehost WP install site and it's pretty straight forward, sounds like one of those "one off" defect installations, if a server has a "hick-up"(downtime) during the installation it's possible that a file wasn't correctly transfered.

Delete all files and re-install it

                hi Norman,
When a new domain name is registered or an existing one is transferred from one registrar/Web host to another, the domain name goes through the process of Propagation, which typically lasts about two days(can sometime be longer)
During Propagation, the domain name will be unreachable on the Web

So I take it you've just bought the hosting service?

If so, don't worry about it, use the temp url provided, the internal transfer from temp to domain once propagated is automatic.

                best regards

You can actually install it now on the temp. Everything you do on the Temporary URL will be reflected in your domain, when the propagation process is completing. You don't have to do any changes or migration.

                    So install and start rockin

                          Hi Norman

Are you still loging in with the temp data?

When you applied for the transfer you probably received a mail similar to this:

"Temporarily you may use one of the addresses given below to manage your web site:
                          Temporary FTP Hostname: 244.176.243.276
                          Temporary Webpage URL: http://244.176.243.276/~mysit/

And once your domain has propagated you may use the details below:
                          FTP Hostname: mysite.com
                          Username: mysit
                          Password: NJSIuGEPO
                          Webpage URL: http://www.mysite.com"

You will also have to enter the FTP details into filezila at the top of the programs interface.

You should also be installing/uploading your wp into the root directory public_html. I believe that is the warning above, so delete all WP files only and re-install in public_html.

small tip: if you are using Wp as the main homepage, then do as I suggested above but if you are using a separate homepage(index.html) in public_html that will be linking to the WP, then create an extra directory like "blog" or "reviews" or whatever name relates to your sites keywords and install WP to that one.
so in filezila it would look like this, either: public_html orpublic_html/blog

                          was that clear for you?

                          Best regards

What do you all recommend to handle a post in Wordpress that needs to be split up into multiple pages and have an index page at the bottom of all pages that allows the reader to navigate from page to page within the multipage post?

        Hi webgal,

is this you're looking for perhaps?

Did you know you could split a single post up into different web pages by just typing <!--nextpage--> in your post? Called the Page-Link tag, place your cursor in the spot where you want a page break to appear in your post and type <!--nextpage-->. This technique can be used throughout a long post to make two or more pages out of a single post. Note: At one time there was a Next-Page quicktag button but it was deleted to reduce the clutter on the quicktag bar.
When you view your post on your site, the multi-page links appear as links at the bottom of the generated post and usually look like:
        Page 1, 2, 3

Hi tigerwar thanks for your help. I think I just figured out why I can't get paging to work however. I was actually using the code you mentioned, but paging wouldn't work on 2 blogs I was updating yesterday---so I thought I'd post here and see if there was a new option to do paging.

Apparently, there is a bug in 3.0 that at least on some sites affects the paging.

WordPress › Support Post paging stopped working since WP3.0

If anyone has been able to successfully get paging to work on a 3.0 wordpress blog, I'd be really grateful for the help.

Apparently, there is a bug in 3.0 that at least on some sites affects the paging.

WordPress › Support Post paging stopped working since WP3.0

If anyone has been able to successfully get paging to work on a 3.0 wordpress blog, I'd be really grateful for the help.

          btw Webgal....

They've now released ver 3.01 with about 50 bugs fixed(not sur if your bug is fixed though). I don't know how you update normally but I found this today which apparently makes things much easier(Just about to try it out myself):

Wordpress Automatic Upgrade - extremely easy to follow to automatically upgrade your wordpress site, this plugin does a back-up (which you should always do before upgrading) which you can download as you go through the process.

          Best regards

Hi tigerwar, unfortunately the paging bug wasn't fixed in 3.01. I actually have the auto-update plugin, and you're right, it is terrific, but neither 3.0 nor 3.01 works with paging. Or at least it doesn't on the themes I have tried. I have a few multipage articles that I have to get posted, so I'm going to see what type of workarounds I can find. Thanks again for taking the time to try to help and for mentioning the auto-upgrade plugin!

Yes I want to ask from you. Can you reply me and can answers of my questions. You asking that you do not understand it much. I want to ask that how to covert PSD photoshop source file to HTML. How can I design beautiful themes. I found some material on the net but it did not help me much.

My husband has a "Listen Live" page on his WP site for hi talk radio show. He wants it to only be active on Saturday's from 11AM to noon, Eastern. Any other time the Listen Live menu link is clicked, it should redirect to his previous shows podcast page.

    I'm stumped.
