Paypal - is there a way to receive a text when new payment has come in?

Hey guys I am wondering if anyone knows how to setup the ability to
receive a text message on your phone from paypal when a payment comes
in. I'm running a service where I need to be able to respond quickly when
payments come in.

Would be nice if you could set it up to only send text when payment comes
from a specific email or is made through a specific button as well.

Anyone know if paypal supports this or if someone has made a third party
script to handle this?

im not sure but if it where there, it more than likely would be a service provided by paypal themselves. for one because SMS e-net to cell services wont stay public for long and would be rather insecure, and also because paypal likes to keep track of all the data surrounding account access.

seems like using a 3rd party script to take care of your problem would get your account limited considering the other things they limit/freeze accounts for.

If you're using a mail client like Outlook you can set up a rule to forward e-mails from a certain address once they come in. You can do the same in Gmail using filters.

The page below shows how to send text messages directly from e-mail for most of the major cell carriers.

How To Send Email Text Messages To Any Cell Phone (for Free) from your computer - The Medical Quack .... by Barbara Duck - emrupdate.com

So you would basically just forward the message to your cell phone via e-mail. Something like that.

Ya I was looking at doing this, but I am not using gmail or outlook. I have
my own email through my domain.

I am seeing if I can just setup a separate email for the campaign I am
running and then the only emails that would be sent to that email would
be payment notifications. So I can run a forward all emails command to
my phone number. But I am not sure if paypal sends notifications to the
alternate emails you use (even if the payment was made to the alternate
email) or if they just send notifications to the primary.

Otherwise I don't know how to setup specific email forwarding on my
cpanel email (I believe it's squirellmail).

I know it can be done with a script, someone who knows how to setup
some cron jobs. Must be someone who has this script made, if not it
would be a handy little tool to make and sell cheap or build a list with.

If anyone knows any other options, please do chime in.

    Do you sell eproducts?
    What country are you in?

You didn't mention what phone you have, and it makes a big difference.

I have a phone that runs the Google Android Operating System. It comes with a pre-installed Gmail app. I have my cpanel send a copy of the email to my Gmail address. I get a "tone" on my phone whenever I receive an email to this address. I just use the app to read it. You can set up the cpanel filters to send whatever email you want to your Gmail address.

    This works for me,

I just use a paypal buy now button, all the items I sell are digital.

      USA. Thanks for your help.

Well right now I have a crappy older phone, but I am upgrading here soon
to either an iphone or one of the newer androids (so hard to choose...).

But I was mainly just looking for a way to text a phone because I want to
get like what you're getting. I want my phone to buzz so I know when I
received a payment when I am not online checking things OR even to
wake me up when I am sleeping for certain orders.

I know you can turn your phone numbers into email addresses and I have
that for my current number, so I would just need to know how to have
only specific emails I receive forwarded to my phone or something like that.

      Thanks for the response guys.

        Hi Benjamin,

Here could be a possible turnkey solution for you - there is a really cool product delivery script called LinkLok - vibralogix(dot)com for delivering your eproducts after paypal payment. It has a module built into it that works with clickatel.com

You can purchase txt credits for about $0.03 US - the script will automatically txt you on your US number only once a transaction takes place on that specific script

        SMS Pricing wizard
SMS Pricing | Pricing Wizard | Clickatell
1000 sms credits is about $30

        LinkLok cost around $29.99
        Linklok Paypal features

so you would need around $60 and that would cover 1000 sales alerts

        hope that helps

You could do this through Growl / Prowl methinks. Growl is available for Mac and PC, i think.

You can check to see what your paypal balance by texting them, when you send them a text they will reply to your text with your current paypal balance. You can go to paypal .com, don't log in just go to the bottom of the page and you will see "All Personal Products and Services" under that look all the way to the right under "Other" click on paypal mobile. You will then see the free app to get so you can manage your account from your phone. I personally use the texting option to check and see what my account balance is. All the best.

Are you talking about this Prowl - Home Looks like it might
work... I would need to get an iphone but this looks to be about what I
am looking for. Anything out there that doesn't require an iphone?

Well I am looking for a solution that notifies me. That way I can know right
      when the transaction happens.

You should be able to set up a mail filter in your cpanel and have it send a copy of the email to you, like I mentioned before.

Have your cpanel filter set to send anything "from paypal.com" or you can set it to search the Subject line of the email for your item description if you only want the emails from certain item sales.

You mentioned you can send text emails to your phone number, so I don't see why this wouldn't work.

If you are looking for something that "works with MAC or PC" then obviously your MAC or PC has to be on all the time for you to get the notice. If you set it up in your cpanel you will get the notices to your phone even if your home computer is off.

Thanks for your help. I went in and figured it out through cpanel.

For anyone else interested in doing this for themselves, here is what I did.

I went into my hosting cpanel, went to mail and found account level
filtering. I then set up a new rule. I set the rule to body and contains and
then I put in the order description of the specific order I wanted to get notified
about. So with this setup I just set redirect email and put in the email form of my
      phone number.

If you don't know the email form of your phone number check out this link How
To Send Email Text Messages To Any Cell Phone (for Free) from your computer -
The Medical Quack .... by Barbara Duck - emrupdate.com.

I tested it out and it's working. Thanks for all the help guys.

If you're going to upgrade to an iphone, there is a PayPal app. I'm not sure if it gives you instant notification, though. (Mine makes me log in every time for security purposes)

Plus, you can sync your email on the iphone as well, and set it to ding every time you get an email. That's how I get my instant PayPal notifications.

I know there is a service that will text you when you get mail through Gmail. So, you could grab the app and forward your emails from paypal to a gMail account, and that should do the trick. But, as mentioned, this would be completely automated if you had a smart phone.

The problem with scripts (or carts) that do this is that you won't get a text when the customer doesn't click the "complete the sale" button after paying. These are the sales you really want to know about because you have a customer who has paid but has nothing for their money.

I built "SMS me on sale" functionality into my own ordering system and back that up with both the PayPal iPhone application (it's cool but buggy) and the "balance" SMS response described above.

    Cheers,
