Is domain flipping a viable business model?

Hey guys, more to the point - does domain flipping really work? At the moment I don't see where the value is when you buy a domain and try to resell it. (Note: without improving traffic, backlinks etc)

Sure it has all this 'potential' but I just don't oh what they call it? See the money. Where is the "value" in buying the same thing, making no improvements and selling it again? (That's how money is made right?! aka value given)

I hope I'm wrong about this, because I'd love to get my feet wet in this biz!

Thanks

It can be very lucrative, yes.

I got into domaining when I was 16 (am now 20) and made more money on that than with any other online venture I've done before (or since, for that matter)

The "value" is in spotting a bargain, and also sometimes simply in holding a domain for years until its price rises. It's a bit like the stock market. Just easier to get into, and easier to make bigger ROIs

To be honest with you, i dont think this business is for everyone.

Are you already an experienced marketer (actually making money)? If not i would start somewhere simplier.

I myself have never made money in this area but the idea is you buy domain names that people or will find valuable (think one or two word domains) i beleive sex.com sold for millions.

I also know of another fellow that sold a domain that was the name of a company and made like 12 million.

the other way would be to buy domains with high PR or that are aged. the theory behind these is that a marketer can then buy these domains and then create a site that instantly has high PR or is older so google will trust them more.

But other warriors please add your 2 cents because i honestly am bias, i don't really like the idea behind this method. So if anyone knows/ makes money with this domin flipping please share!

I'm not sure how much simpler it could be... you find a good domain, register it, and sell it. There is no Web development or PPC or anything like that. It's probably one of the most lucrative things you can do online, considering the minimal time and effort that it takes and the payoffs you can achieve.

The concept is simple i agree for sure with you but will a newbie know howto pick the rght domain to flip later, will they understand the concept of PR and aged domain?

I thnk that absolute beginners should get their feet wet first with actual marketing, but then agaqin how can i argue with you when affiliate marketing takes a bit of money and effort to learn properly.

        So i guess your right!

My own method for flipping is based around finding highly qualified buyers first, and then registering the domain. Other methods are a little more speculative, but usually you're not risking more than the $8 registration fee. Minimal risk, maximum potential gain.

Anyone who is out looking for the next sex.com or whatever is wasting their time. The trick is finding valuable domains that are worth hundreds, not millions, of dollars and flipping them quickly.

Noooo... I find the buyers first to make sure the domain has potential, then I register it, then I sell it.

In its very simplest form, it is a system where in As long as you know how to research and pick a domain name, buy it for cheap and turn around and sell it for a profit. How much profit you make really depends on your skill, or how much time you've put into learning how to do it.

But it is an unbelievably successful system that allows the select few that know about it to make money month after month, year after year.

I like the idea of buying aged domains with good pr. You have to make sure it does not 'drop' or the pr is zero again. So don't buy 'dropped' domains.
The domain you buy is still active with the registrar - like Godaddy for instance - and you need to buy the domain from the seller and have a free account with Godaddy and have it transferred to your account. Do not have it transferred to another registrar! Simple!
Get that wrong and the domain is 'dropped'.

Gene Pimentel has an excellent system of domain flipping. He's done a great job of boiling it down to a very simple and duplicatable process.

Gene Pimentel and many others have made a very solid living (more than just a living, actually) from domaining. Gene has an excellent WSO out and Rob's WSO is a good one too. Selling domains to me is the simplest way to make money online, provided you pick the right domains and both of the above referenced WSOs give you a big clue on how to pick domains to sell.
