Secret To "Massive Traffic"?

I've always been a big fan of the saying "squeaky wheel gets the oil". In other words ask the right people (Warriors) and the right questions and get the answers.

So.... I know a big deal in this game is traffic. From my small knowledge I've learned traffic = optins = sales (correct me if I'm wrong).

I've be doing pretty well on one of my sites but not good enough for me.(Feel free to make fun but its a success for me.... it averages 20-50 "visits" a day Sites been up for almost 3 months). I mainly use article marketing and out sourced social bookmarking. I'd like to get higher obviously...triple digits would be great!

Is there a hidden secret? Is it time? Is it software? Is it a combo of article marketing, social bookmarking, PRs, twitter, FB, video marking, etc, etc, etc all leading to rankings and backlinks?

I'm not looking for the easy way, just looking for a nudge in the right direction. I see guys getting these insane numbers of "visits" and "page views"... How'd they do it?

Thanks Warriors!

There are essentially only 2 ways to get traffic.

    1. Pay for it.
    2. Generate it over time via a number of tactics.

But regardless of what method you use, you're only going to get as much
traffic as their are people looking for that information. In other words, some
niches, there just isn't that much traffic to begin with...especially if it's a
    relatively obscure niche.

So, the first thing you have to do is see how much demand there is. That's
done by using the keyword tool of your choice (I prefer Google's) and looking
at the number of monthly searches for all your relevant keywords.

The next step is to look at the top sites.

    1. What is their PR?
    2. How many backlinks?
    3. How much are they spending on advertising?
    4. How much traffic through organic search?
    5. What is their layout like?
    6. What keywords are they targeting?

Essentially, if you want to beat these sites out for the traffic they're
getting, you need to be better than them and do more than them.

If they're paying up the wazoo for PPC, then it's doubtful you're going
to beat them with free methods, but you can try.

If they're not paying for ads and getting it all via organic search, then you
simply need to have a better page, better PR, more backlinks, maybe
    even target more keywords.

To get this traffic, you may or may not have to do all the following
depending on how tough the competition is.

    Articles
    Bookmarking
    Networking (2.0 sites)
    JVs

    And so on.

Point is, there is no one answer to your question. There are too many
variables involved to say this is what you MUST do or this is how little
you can get AWAY with doing.

Some niches have so much money thrown at them, in order to stay on
top, that you'd be insane to try to compete with them.

So without knowing your niche, impossible to say if the traffic you are
    currently getting is:

    1. Good
    2. Bad
    3. Okay
    4. Less than you should be getting
    5. More than you should be getting

    And so on.

50 visitors a day, for some niches, is gold...whereas for other niches, it's
a drop in the bucket and to think that you should be getting more than
that literally borders on the insane.

    Bottom line:

The more you do, the more you will get out of it.

    Hope this helps.

Some websites only require a little traffic, and others require a lot more. It really depends on what the purpose of your website is. Are you trying to sell something, or build a community? There are hundreds of different methods of generating traffic, but the key for me has always been generating focused traffic. Trying to aim for those people who are hyper focused on what kind of information I'm offering.

Take some time to ask what your trying to accomplish with this website.

Hey Orator, thanks for the reply. I'm in the affiliate game and am trying to build a list. I like to give good quality tips/advice to subcribers aswell.

I never thought about it like that before, how you said some niches only need a little traffic.... great point!

        Thanks

Having a blog, and using social bookmarking to bookmark your posts every time you write a new one is a great way to get traffic,

another great way is by starting a newsletter for your site. The more new visitors you can convert into returning visitors, the better!

    MASSIVE ACTION = MASSIVE TRAFFIC

Whether you use any tools or not, do proper planning or not, make corrections and adjustments, it all depends on how much work you put into it eventually.

The secret to massive traffic is no secret at all. You just have to make a site that people love. Get that right and you will find yourself spending far less time on SEO.

For massive traffic you are going to have to diversify your traffic methods or pay for it. If you are going the free route you can generate some insane levels of traffic by:

    1. Getting a large email list and sending them to your articles/offers periodically

    2. Target high traffic keywords and perform some serious backlinking campaigns to rank highly. If you look in google for **** berry you will notice articlesbase ranking and just look at the views....

    3. Participating in social bookmarking sites and web 2.0 sites by commenting on other peoples content and participating in groups.

    4. Get traffic in classified ads

    5. Send out press releases

    6. Participating in high traffic blogs and forums

    7. Posting your content on authority sites to generate traffic

    8. Use video sites to generate views

Don't get too hung up on the high ranking part in search engines. Yes, that helps, but you're better off in doing your own thing.

If you social bookmark, article submissions, offpage promotions, videos, etc., do your own multiple actions to get backlinks, then you are doing great and will have consistent traffic. Works for me right now...

Just one question on #1.... doesn't the traffic need to come first before the list or did I miss a step?

        1. There are going to be authority sites/blogs in your niche that already generate a lot of traffic. Browse around in google for the keywords that you are trying to rank for and pay attention to who is ranking.

Your are going to notice a site or two popping up in the top 10 now and then. You can personally contact these webmasters to write an article for them with an anchor text link going back to your site. Sometimes they might reply but sometimes they won't.

Don't get hung up on it too much, just request and move on.

Its all about leveraging off the work others have done. But on the other side of the spectrum you should be also focusing on building up your own self-hosted property so that you can become an authority in your niche.

Eventually you shouldn't be so reliant on article directories/other webmasters directories for traffic. The less reliant you become for others for traffic the better off will be.

And building a list is essential to having your own "push button" traffic source. When you develop a large enough list that is responsive, you will be able to run offers through them by just blasting out a single email.

You can even run offers through the backend with your list. And eventually you should have your own product to send to them as well.

But remember to have their trust and don't treat your list like some slot machine.

        1. Ask questions
        2. Perform surveys to see what burning desire your list member wants to solve
        3. Having a personality also helps for your list to see you as a real genuine person and not some automated email message
        4. But don't forget to sell to them when they are already used to opening up your emails.
        5. You can perform a test with your list by sending out a $1 offer to see who in your list is more than likely to buy from you.
        6. Always test, test, test

Sites that get high traffic already are authority sites. My favorite way is guest posting on relevant blogs that already get high traffic. but, you have to do it right.

It takes a lot of work, but it is well worth it, and much faster than bowing down to google and hoping they will rank you for a keyword. Although seo is important, dont rely on any one source for your traffic. if more than 20% of your traffic comes from one place, you are screwing yourself.

Or you can just buy a site that already has steady traffic coming in. Probably only for people willing to spend large amounts of money.

Youtube has millions of visits a day and google bought it. so just find a big website with traffic and buy it.

When it comes to knowing how easy it is to rank for keywords I use Traffic Travis
just search it in google, i use the free version and its more than useful personally pro version does have its benefits but free version is more than adequate

Hope that helps a bit when it comes to keyword selection

I usually use Google Keyword tool then cross check it in TT to see if its doable to rank for the term

I would say the best links that you can get are .edu and .gov back links. But, these can be difficult to find, or should I say ones that allow you to leave a link in your comments without deleting them. So I will show you a sneaky little trick to use, that will allow you to copy other people’s hard work and not worry about link building.

The first thing you need to do is find any website from another Internet Marketer. The
reason is that if they were successful at building .edu or .gov links then there is a very good chance you will be also at the same sites.
What we are doing is this technique is a reverse lookup on these sites, and finding all their successful .edu and .gov backlinks. In order to do this, you will be searching in Yahoo and entering this search string:

    linkdomain:URL-HERE.com -site:URL-HERE.com inurl:.edu
Where I have put: “URL-HERE.com” is where you need to place the URL of the site you want to do a reverse lookup on. What you must first do is go to Yahoo and type in the search string I showed above, but obviously you would have to replace the “URL-HERE.com” part with the website you are doing the reverse lookup on.

But before you push search, you need to make sure that SEO quake is turned on( if you don't have it you can review a previous post of mine that showed you how to get SEO Quake firefox Addon). To do this just click the icon in the bottom right of your screen, once you have it installed. Once SEO Quake is on, then you can push search.

Once the results show up, you now need to click the down arrow next to ‘PR’ so that SEO Quake sorts the results from highest page rank to lowest.
Then you will see all the .edu sites that are linking to that site that you can immediately start building your link to. Now all you have to do is repeat the process for all the websites you want to do a reverse lookup on to find these powerful links linking to them.

    All the best.
