Just wondering, what are the major differences between an article and a press release?

Thanks

Format, method of distribution, content, purpose of content, audience - although
there's some overlap, accepted frequency of use/creation.

I'll assume you know what an article is - not being sarcastic. Perhaps
the best thing to do is check out the G results for a search on press
release format. You can also search on PR templates to help if you're
    planning on doing your own.

a press release can be very effective to get your plenty of backlinks and SEO boosts.

It will display your news article on many blogs and news websites and hopefully will be picked up by larger websites and get you traffic.

An article submitted for instance to ezine articles will just be on that site and if done properly, with keyword research and a proper SEO optimized article can get thousands of views.

Both are important to do. Articles in mass numbers work best.

A couple good press releases a month keep the links coming and hopefully high quality visitors and press coverage.

I recommend article marketing especially in the beginning if you are just starting out. They help build up quality backlinks, your Google page rank, and deliver free targeted traffic to your site.

Press releases to me are less time consuming, they rank in the serps just as good, if not better. I would make press releases your second step once you have a decent amount of articles floating around the Internet.

But doing both is wise.... They both are effective marketing strategies!

You should pay for a press release or two for every new site you make. The initial boost in traffic and backlinks go a long way in your initial site rankings.

I wrote a paid press release for a brand new domain name for a keyword with exact match 38,000 / 22mil broad.

2780 hits to my press release within the first 24 hours about 30% CTR to my landing page

$470 from CPA offers same day.

I rushed this site and left the default template title "red & blue" It happens.

My brand new poorly seo'd site ranked 14 off the muscle broad match for my target keyword term even with the improper title showing in google.

I would not have accomplished this simply writing an article and linking to my site.

Press releases are site launchers. I wouldn't waste time with free press releases. They are just like articles directories in most cases.

A good paid press releases will get you many backlinks and an initial traffic boost to get your site started.
