Can't take the first step

Its been like 2 months since I have started taking interest in IM and joined many different forums. I keep on reading different threads that just attract me regardless to those are related to IM or not.

The problem which I am facing is like I have the stuff ready, I have the niche ready, articles ready but I am not able to launch anything. I always sit on computer and instead of working on my own niche, I start reading different threads. The only thing which is left is buying the domain and building up the landing page. That's not even a problem aswell, but I don't know whats holding me?

Does this happens with everyone or is it just me who is just hanging on the start?

Regards,
TD

It sound like you lack of self discipline and you need to get organized.

And stop doing anything that you think is wasting your time and not letting you to concentrate on the job on hand.

Don't get me wrong, this forum is great but you can spend weeks here reading the information provided. I was like you years back. I had all the knowledge I really needed but was looking for the "Easy Button".

You have to set a schedule and follow that schedule to a "T". Then, at night when you have some down time or a weekend you can hop onto the forum and read and learn.

    So...

Just sit down and do it. You won't get anywhere by daydreaming. If you want to be successful in i.m. you have to make it happen because no one will do it for you (at first).

I apologize if I come across to harsh. It's just I was in the same position when I first got started.

    Good luck!

Very good advice, but in the beginning its like one must spend time in the forum, "this" forum anyway, because when you are about to launch your product a lot of people go by your post count instead of what your offering to make them take action and buy your product, which I think isn't fair. Everyone acts as if they weren't in your shoes when they first started out. And a lot of warriors don't like to help the next one even though they see that you are taking action.

I'm not saying ALL warriors are like that, but I have been on this forum for a long time but didn't register until some months ago, and I have seen warriors make very rude comments about simple ?'s that a newbee has. I would say that everyone deserves a chance.

I have been in your situation a few times, it can be very difficult to get started sometimes, especially if you have little confidence, and it can be hard to get confidence without having had done something.

My advice is create a number Plan of Attack (POA) (ie. 1. Get site up, 2. Get traffic generation going) and then you can make sub-points within that POA.

Also, stop reading forums, they can be very discouraging when you're getting started. Get things started and then come back to learn more once you have it running a bit.

    Good Luck!

Hi Smokee. I was in a similar spot a year ago. I had everything I needed to launch my blog, but I was too insecure to let it happen. I wasn't sure if the domain name was good enough so that I could stick with it. I also thought that I should learn a bit more before starting.

But what for? Einstein said, "Example isn't another way to teach, it is the only way to teach." It's natural to think that if you read one more post, you'll be that much wiser. Well, you might possess more information on the topic, but it doesn't necessarily have any connection to your own project. As RobertZuma said, get things started and then come back for more.

You have to start your project first, because if not, all that theory will have no practical basis. Every blog and website is different. You can always come up with a number of hypothetical purposes for the information you're absorbing, but none of it will be directly related to your project if it doesn't yet exist.

The way I understand Einstein's view on teaching (which of course applies to learning as well) is, you need to understand the context of what you're learning. Grammar is best learned when the declensions and conjugations are related to real-life conversations. When you have Spanish-speaking friends to speak Spanish to, you learn the language much faster than by reading a textbook. The same law applies to any kind of learning.

Just launch the website, start applying the principles you've learned so far, and seek more knowledge when you find yourself in a rut.

      You can do it!

Awesome, I am not the only one then Seriously I have always gone through this with bouts of product creation and then just reading and then more product or content creation. I think that it tends to be a laziness plus a confidence thing.

My best suggestion to you would be to get a sales page up whether to your own hosting or even a wordpress.com or some other shared hosting and then write some articles in your niche as "practice" to see how much you have learned and need to learn and then move on from there. A sales page or review page with some articles pointing to it at least give you a chance at making some money and is easily duplicatable.

I find the problem is that as soon as I decide to create an ebook or some other large project is that I overanalyze and get nervous about all the work and the potential instead of actually doing that action

Another thing you can do is start one of those "Watch me make $1,000 in 30 days" type posts here and see if you can get good input and fournal your experience at that same time.

hey smokee, I know exactly how you feel, I was in the exact same position for YEARS. Literally. I was doing other things naturally, working, uni etc. But i still couldn't get started with IM, despite all the knowledge, products everything. I'd always start a project and then reached a point I just could never get round to doing.

The only thing you can do is just jump in and do it. There's no reason you're having trouble, or maybe there is, but it's irrelevant. Just get on it, do it and you'll be glad for it later. If you start resisting just keep going, plow through it, and by the time it's done you'll be wondering what all the fuss was about.

That's been my strategy, and i'm finally almost up to a full time income.

      Wishing you luck,

      Zul

I must say I'm very impressed by everyone's post. I mean, If you read each and every post, its very supporting. People are sharing their past and giving advices which they learned in their hard time.

Coming back to the topic, so Its not only me who is afraid of stepping into the water, but after creating this topic and getting all the replies I must say I have gained alot of courage and thinking of doing it in a week.

    Thanks a lot guys.
    Much Appreciated.

The issue is called "self-starting." Some people can self-start, and others need a clock, a boss, or some other outside influence that will tell them when it is time to begin.

The problem affects many people in many different industries, especially in commissioned sales where income is entirely dependent on the ability to start on your own. I don't believe it is a matter of laziness since most non self-starters I have known would work like crazy once you got them going.

Instead I think the issue is mostly a lack of a trigger to force starting. There are many days when I don't feel like working, but I know that I must. On those days I will sometimes give myself a limitewd amount of time for goofing off before starting work. For instance, I might give myself an hour to cruise the net, or play a short game. If I think I might backslide, I can always set an alarm clock--when the clock goes off, the toys get put away and the work starts.

I am new to IM, but I feel that to achieve something, we definitely have to set goals and know why we want it. All of us want to earn a decent income and let that be your drive towards getting your website running.

If you don't start, how could you ever earn money? Besides, if we fail at our first try, we should always learn from it and try again. It doesn't matter if you failed 5 times in a row.. all you need is one, just that one attempt that brings in the cash, and I'm sure you will feel a great sense of achievement =)
