How many hours a day?

Dear Internet Marketers,

I'm a newbie for internet marketing. I started to learn internet marketing since 2007. So far I got paycheck only from google adsense (3 times) and still counting now...

I'd like to know from other internet marketers how much hours you spend to work on internet marketing a week? I am on average 30 hours a week. But you know, the result is still far enough from my goal...

Do I need to work extra hours to achieve my goal...?

Any comments or suggestions welcome...

I don't think that way. I try to find ways to get people doing work that is profitable. Trying to work a certain number of hours myself makes me a "worker" rather than an "entrepreneur".

You are absolutely right! But for me, hired someone to work on my site is still costly. This time "worker" is still best for me and my next goal is "entrepreneur".

Great point! Anyone can go to a "real job" for 8 hours, and not really accomplish anything. Chit chatting in the break room, hanging out on the internet - it's all time that you're not getting anything done, even if you were "technically" on the clock for 8 hours.

When it comes to IM - whether you spend 4 hours working every day, or 14 - you have to work smart. It's not about meeting 40 hours a week (or 50, or 60). It's about making the most out of the hours that you do spend working, and there's no magic number for that.

True. Working 60 hours a week led me to be an expert in outsourcing as well. So now, I only work 10 hours a week at most and sometimes, 4 hours if I haven't got any urgent project to do so!

Some people have "worker" so engrained into their being. For some, it's out of necessity and complacency....but, for the "entrepreneur", well, you just do what you have to do to reach your goals....

It's 3:30 in the morning here EST, and I'm still running on pure adrenaline. I'll get over on 2-4 hours sleep....it's learning how to operate at the highest level of efficiency that will pay dividends....

P.s. I still take GOOD care of myself. It's a balance, for sure.

it is not working extra hours make the money it is working extra hours on what is doing well for you make the money. lets say you have a site that makes you most of the money on adsense, then try working extra hours on another site similar to that good one. You can work hours and hours on something without getting anything so it just depends on where you are putting in those hours that matters the most.

One of the hardest concepts for beginners to understand is the concept of ditching hour tracking.

If you are in business for yourself, the hours no longer matter. It's only about results...

Some people work a few hours a week and make 100x what others do working 40.

Additional working hours is not an answer, it's how you spend your time working. You need to make sure that every seconds you take from working is necessary. I suggest to make some research first and learn the proper way of internet marketing.

well, i think that working extra hours can help you with this. What you really need is how focussed you are towards you goal. If you work online for 3-5 hours and do your work without getting distracted by social networks and chats, then this time is enough for you to achieve your goal.

I guess, I'm very focus right now with my goal. You know, I've been working ONLY for this site since October 2009. I did research for niche market, buy a new domain, hosting it, submit articles regularly, on page and off page seo, put adsense and amazon but the result is still not significant for me

google broad result for one of my targeted keyword is around 15 million. Is this affecting my target keyword ranking? Now still sit in page 4 and sometime move up to page 2...

another targeted keyword now sit in page 1 rank #10 and but only give me result for 1 amazon sale....

Keep in mind to go for more ways to gain traffic to your website other then organic traffic. The top 3 spots in google get 80% of the traffic for a keyword. The other 7 on the page all get around 3% each.. Maybe try to test different things on your website, perhaps your offer isn't favored by many so therefore its not converting. So try switching out your Amazon offer for another offer and see how that one goes. It's the small changes you make that can actually make a huge difference.

        Hope this helps,
        Jeff

Work on things that make you money, and try to outsource the rest if feasible.

    1. Traffic generation to your blog, website, or landing page.
    2. Build an email list
    3. Backlinks and SEO strategy

These are things that will make you money now and long into the future. Concentrate on these things!

20 to 40 hours per week could be good enough - You have to make sure that you have enough rest after the long work... Setting and working for extra hours is not advisable. It's a matter of using strategy in order to achieve your goals. True too, that you may want to hire worker/s to work for you.

I spend a solid 2-4 hours a day trying to promote my sites or working on things related to them. Way more time than I should be and honestly it has become such a tireless and thankless animal for me it has completely taken away the time I had for the sites in the first place so now they have less content because I'm shuffling around trying to do this or that. Not to mention the enjoyment factor plummets when I'm sitting on the computer jerking around trying to do this or that instead of doing what my main goal was in the first place of making shorts and videos.

Sometimes I might dedicate a whole weekend to a project - other times I might go 2 - 3 weeks and not invest anything more then a couple of hours.

This coming weekend, I might do a project day. This is were I grab the camera, make some videos, take some pictures and write some articles. And then not touch it again for a week or 2.

Try to track all of your efforts, and see what is producing the most income for the least amount of work. I do not advocate laziness, but doing the least amount of work for the maximum amount in return is just smart business.

I try to "trim the fat" from my campaigns by doing a few different things, and then figuring out what is working well, and what isn't working so well. After I do this, I am able to work smarter and not harder.

Internet marketing is all about leverage, and the more you can leverage your efforts the more money you should make.

If I'm building, 8 hours a day. If I'm maintaining less than 1 hour a day. You really need to develop a system that works for you and then simply repeat. That means if you run a blog, find a formula that makes writing high quality blog posts easy.

Work smarter not harder!...I used to work 16 hour days when I first started internet marketing last year...and made a decent amount of money but now I took my knowledge of what needs to be done and passed that on to a team of workers I have formed from the philipinnes and with a team of 5 costing me less than 1,000 US dollars per month I now make 5 figures from their work and I might work a couple hours a day.

I am a firm believer that if you are working on your business and in your business then you still have J-O-B...and your just trading time for money same as everyone else who has a job but if you want a business then you need to work on your business and help it grow and let other people work in your business. And I love to work on new things for my business and making it grow and adding additional income streams. Its not even work..its all fun and games for me!

I've been realizing that putting time in is unrelated to producing effect. I've been told by many a successful business owner this variation of the 80/20 rule... 80% of your time is spent on the part of your business that produces 20% of the result. The true top producers seem to either 1) disregard that 80% entirely or (if it must be done) 2) outsource this busy work to other people.

All of your actions can be quantified as either "Dollar Productive Activities" or a "Support Activity". If you thoroughly and truthfully analyze your 30 hours a week, I'll be you'll find at least 80% of it is a "Support Activity".

What constitutes a "DPA"? If, upon completing that specific activity, a dollar can come from the great wallet in the sky and land in yours, that's been a DPA.

    • Posting a newsletter to your list with a call to action for a product is a DPA.
    • Searching through Clickbank for new offers is a "support activity".

    • Placing a new ad on Google Adwords is a DPA.
    • Doing keyword research is a "support activity"

    • Posting a WSO is a DPA
    • Doing the graphic design for a website is a "support activity"

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that support activities aren't important, but I am saying they're not dollar productive. I think a lot of people get wrapped up very heavily in the details and semantics of "support activities" (myself included) that they don't push the DPA button enough and the result is less than stellar wallet filling.

What do you think? Make sense or am I floating in space?

The main thing is... It's not the amount of hours you work sometimes!!!
    It's WHAT your working on!
I've made some niche sites in my time.... Took me a few hours researching and a couple a day over a week or so... And they're doing me fine!
I had to take time off due to offline stuff keeping me too busy! But they helped give me pocket money!!
Focus on what is working rather then putting time into whats not!!!!! 3 years to work on stuff thats not working good for you is far from productive!
IF not, And you REALLY want to pursue these, Then try a coaching course or get some ebooks from people in the know, To get yourself on the right track!

Random Side Note: Readers might consider checking out Rich Dad, Poor Dad. Best place I found was Borders for $5 retail, otherwise I'm sure Amazon has it.

This book does a good job about talking about building a system, so you "don't have to work." Think of the normal business, people managing people. Think of the internet business. People managing websites, automation managing tasks.

I spend about 60 hours a week on my various projects. What I found worked for me was the following:

    1) Come up with your own ideas
    2) When you get stuck, either outsource the work or get a WSO related to your need
    3) Put time and effort into each project
    4) Become an expert at something and get noticed

This is a learning experience for you, me, and everyone else. Don't worry about not making money right away -- if you dedicate yourself it will come.

The number of hours are not the most important. What profit each hour on average produces is important.

Take all the income this site has generated.
Substract all costs related to the site. All of them.
Take that number and divide it by the hours you have so far spent on this project. All of them.
That is how much you are paying yourself by the hour.

Without knowing the specifics, here is what I think:

If you are pulling 30 hrs a week on a site that still battles to perform since 2009 and is not generating more than some small Adsense money - you need to step away from that project and start from scratch. Now.

That site is building you a debt (in Time, Energy, and perhaps even in real money) that it will never be able to pay you back.
In eating up your Time and Energy, that site is holding you hostage from delevoping further.

Spend some time here at the Warrior Forum and learn before you take on another project.

If you spend just 1 of your weeks - thats 30 hours - learning from this forum you will be in a much better position to start earning by the hour instead of paying by the hour.

    Best of Luck!

Do not work hard but Work Smart. You should go for better offers and you can find them in link building/seo domain. Try to develop your skills in SEO and then see how the clock of money ticks around you. Google ad sense is a very hard and laborious work and a long long way to get results.
