Going into email marketing have few questions

Hi everyone,

I am finally going to go in to email marketing and start to collect email addresses.

I am working on a wordpress site and going to put up a optin-box and give people some product if the sign up to my newsletter.

Now, when people sign up and they will receive an email with the link to download page (you all know how that is) I will have to protect that download page.

Does anyone know of any free service that will do that for me? or any software (not expensive one) that can take care of that?

The cheapest way is to give a non descript name to the page.

Instead of mysite.com/downloadtips You call it mysite.com/5893hhyeh

Have a look at this here too:

    The Web Robots Pages
    Signature

"May I have ten thousand marbles, please?"

      Thanks for the tip,

When people are protecting products they are giving away, do they go as far in protecting that download page and link, as they would do with a product they are selling?

Yes i would def protect anything you're giving away.

Here's something which should help you out greatly.

Just put your documents into a zip file and upload it to your server.

When the user downloads whatever you're giving to them the zip file name loaded in the URL automatically disappears so the user cant see it and therefore they cant share it!

        Protect yourself dude.

        Hope you found this useful

If you're going into email marketing I would suggest you don't go down the free option. Even though I have started a Blog out with a small amount of money and it's going well, I thought it be best to use Aweber, it will be hassle moving your list to a bigger more effective service online if your list really explodes!
Aweber offer a $1 trial then $19 then on afterwards, so I would suggest checking that out, just for the long term benefits.

OK. I have to admit that I am not really helpful in contributing anything in this thread but here is what I think...

I am building my list by giving away a viral/ rebrandable report. So, if anyone bypass my opt-in form and go to the download page directly to get the report. Well, feel free to do so because my aim is to spread the report to as many people as possible.

Yes, the ideal case is they opt-in THEN get my report but if they manage to get the report, read and click the affiliate links inside, I am still making some kind of money ya?

Just my opinion. I am not so concern about protecting my download page currently but I do name my download page like what avenuegirl had mentioned. Of course, if you are selling a valuable product you should really invest in protecting your download page. Make it secure like membership site.

But in my case, I guess the aim is different. I am not sure if I am doing the right thing but I think building a business is to try out your idea first, then fail somewhere along your way, you twist your system a bit and try more... keep repeating until you get a perfect system.

I get your point. But i would not make as much money that way sins I don't have the email addresses and therefor don't have direct access to the people.
I could always prepare a e-book with a lot of affiliate links inside and name the file to some thing people are searching for and upload that to torrent sites and or rapidshare and other similar sites.

But right now I'm thinking of protecting my download link and site. Thanks anyway
