Within your niche, find the bigger blogs and comment on them either through the comments section or through trackbacks.

This should get you some traffic.

Also stumble all of your pages, this gets you some free traffic as well.

I'm trying to do it the free way, I like to stumble my pages and comment on a few other Blogs like you say, but I don't do this much.
I'm mainly focusing on my content and targeting a few keywords, to get a good ranking.
You got good Unique Views daily to your Blog?

      Metabinltd has it.

When I began networking with bloggers in my niche by leaving thoughtful comments on their blogs my traffic jumped.

Create helpful content and network extensively. As your relationships grow so will your presence.

I've never really got any traffic using Stumble Upon, but I hear about people getting 1,000s of visitors almost instantly from it.

Am I missing something or doing it wrong?

i'm not too much of a blogger, but when i had a blog, i did have other websites to help cross promote. being an active member in forums help too, just make sure to put the link to your website in your signiture. Also encouraging your visitors to post is always a plus...even if you have to offer something as small as an ebook, free video, etc. in exchange.

    hope this helps

Free blogging means someone else owns your property and your effort and work can be shut down at anytime. Where are you blogging?

A good way to get traffic to your blog is to post on other blogs and you will get more traffic especially if the blog is related to your niche.

Try maximizing first your raw resources such as "writings skills, communication skills" then after thats where you search for resources that you dont have grasp of.

When I read your OP, I found myself asking what you wanted the traffic for.

Just to read your blog to make you feel better?

    To buy something from you?

To click ads on your blog?

To sign up for a newsletter related to your blog?

    Something else?

Meaning, traffic is not created equal - random traffic can be useless - highly targeted traffic can be worth its weight in gold, and that's the type you want.

Actually, targeted traffic is easier to find (IMHO) because its sources are easier to define.

    Cheers,

You know, those of us who post in forums like this one are natural bloggers. If you're not blogging, but you post a lot here, connect the dots.

Traffic is hard to get, at least for me. I post daily on other blogs but it seems difficult for me to get traffic on my wordpress accounts. Go figure
