How do i make my first online money?

Hi there,

I have been on and off with this for about 6 months now now with little or no success. I have tried niche marketing, but can never get any traffic to click through my affiliate links.

I have also tried blogging on a niche (PHP programming) but i seem to get extremely low traffic on this too, i have also tried all the SEO tips and everything else from the supposed guru's.

Should i keep going with this? Or is it just wasting my time?

Now i am looking at other strengths i have, i can create web apps and write code, i can also write blog posts and articals quite well.

If i was to create a web application, how would i promote it and get people to buy it, how would i know how much to sell it for?

    Hi Daniel

Your question is too broad in scope really. You can either learn how to do those things that you have already failed with better or you could move on and try something else.

My personal advice would be to stick at one thing - whatever it is - until you master it. And that's where this forum can really help you because you can definitely find the answers to very specific questions here when you ask them directly.

So pick something: blogging, article writing, affiliate marketing, programming or whatever and make a start. Then identify your specific problems, such as, can't get enough traffic, can't get enough sign-ups or whatever, and ask them here.

    And good luck,

    Will

Sounds to me like you might need some coaching to get your business headed in the right direction. Some one-on-one with an experienced marketer would help you find your strengths, and help you focus your efforts in the right places.

I'd be happy to hook you up with my coach, if you're interested. He is simply awesome, and if he can't get you making some money, no one can.

I agree 100% with will. I spent around a year trying nearly a dozen different things online, PPC, article marketing, seo, affiliate marketing etc etc.... without giving any of them enough time to actually bring in some results.
Great advise there from Will, Pick something and stick with it, learn it inside out and you will see the results
Unfortunately there is no quick fix online,

    Hope this helps

If you can code web apps, I would advertise your services at the freelancer sites, odesk.com, GAF etc. Offer a few loss-leader jobs, to get rep and authority and gain more clients.

    Hey Will,

I think that is wonderful advice, Will! My mind is always going a million miles a minute and in all directions. I'm going to try and implement your advice and stick to one thing. I refuse to give up on my mission and I don't care how many times I fail because each time I learn something new. I think sometimes people expect to dominate quickly and make fast cash when in all reality it's going to take trial and error to succeed. At least thats my UN professional newbie opinion! Good Luck op and I hope you find your way soon

I'm with Will on this one. Pick something and stick with it long enough for it to produce returns. Find a successful person with a duplicatable model, and put your entire focus on following that model.

I highly recommend writing articles, not just for private clients, but for sites like Break Studios or Bright Hub, too. That's how I make the bulk of my online money. Even though I know it's not real Internet Marketing, it "subsidizes," shall we say, my other IM endeavors. I've actually made a pretty tidy part-time income from it, though I know a lot of people who make it full-time. You can IM me if you want to ask specific questions about it - I'd be happy to help.

By the way whatever you diecide on Yahoo Answers will get you some traffic.

That is a big question what have you done to get traffic? Many people fall into the traffic club traps which gets visits but not targeted visits

I would say affiliate marketing. I simply love it as a business model, and think it is a fantastic way to get started online. I personally use a network called clickbank, and I promote other people's products or services via article marketing.

When I first started out I picked 5 products, and then went to do some keyword research using the Google Adwords keyword tool. I designed a blogger blog for each niche, and begin writing articles, submitting them to popular article directories, and linking to my product review pages on my blogs.

I wrote over 100 articles, and made almost $1,500. It isn't the best business model in the world, but it got me started, and got me to where I am today.

    Hi Daniel,

Firstly, you've got to start with the reason you're in business. What are you passionate about, and how does that relate to the pain points that people are experiencing in that market? If you can remove the pain, if you can fix the problem - you're providing value and money tends to follow value if you do it right.

So, since your expertise lies in programming (and I'm guessing your passion as well), you've got to ask the question - What is the biggest problem in PHP programming? Head to the Google keyword tool and even use the wonder wheel and see what people are searching for. Next, simply teach people how to fix those problems, and provide them the tools to fix them quickly for a price.

That's the basic strategy that you could implement to make money, as long as your market is big enough and has a pain point hurting enough to be willing to pay to fix it.

    Hope that helps.

      Hi guys!

You have all been great help, and i now have a lot to consider, i have submitted my PHP blog to a few (free) programming directories, so i should hopefully see some traffic from there.

So pick something: blogging, article writing, affiliate marketing, programming or whatever and make a start. Then identify your specific problems, such as, can't get enough traffic, can't get enough sign-ups or whatever, and ask them here.
That is quite possibly the best advice i have ever had, thank you very much!
If i keep at the PHP blog, and do a bit of PHP coding, i have decided that i am going to make a functions directory on the blog, and possibly an E-book about the benefits of coding in PHP.

I will keep at this for a bit longer, it seems my blog is doing better with traffic today, i need to slow myself down at times!

Sounds to me like you might need some coaching to get your business headed in the right direction. Some one-on-one with an experienced marketer would help you find your strengths, and help you focus your efforts in the right places.
Norge, thank you very much that would indeed be most helpful, i will post a comment on your page now

to start with and to start getting some income to build from, why not offer your skills as a service to Warriors on the Warriors For Hire section?
I will go and have a look now, maybe some people are looking for a PHP programmer too.

Scratch that, I see you don't have enough posts to DM me - you can post your email (in text, not with the "@") on a comment on my profile and I'll email you if you like.
I will do that now, thank you very much ^.^

And thank you to all the others i havent quoted too, i was not expecting this much help from you all, this forum is now in my bookmarks and i will visiting here quite often

        Hi Daniel,

I would only be able to recommend what has worked for me. Find a Niche in one of three Markets, and then give a product away for free. Build your list....you will need an Auto-Responder.

Start with the basics and build up.
