What happens AFTER you buy a domain from an auction?

Hi Guys I'm thinking of buying an old domain from an domain auction. What normally happens afterwards? Do you have to buy the new domain at the place it was originally bought, or can you then transfer to where you normally buy domain i.e Godaddy? I'm just wondering how much hassle it is? Thanks Phil

Which domain auction site is it?

Plus is it a drop-catchers auction (i.e. are you bidding on already expired domains), or is it an auction of a domain that is active (i.e. not expired)?

In short, it depends massively on the auction site and type of auction.

Oh sorry, ok - I'm using Market Samurai's Domain Samurai - Some have expired, some will expire soon.

Hmm okay; I'm not familiar with that software. Although I guess that it re-directs you to the actual auction site?

If so, it'd probably be the case that you have to keep the domain at the registrar whose auction it is (i.e. if it was GoDaddy's auction site - TDNAM, then you'd have to register it at GoDaddy)

Although don't forget that you can always transfer a domain to your preferred registrar 60 days after you have registered the domain.

Apologies I can't be more specific although I haven't ysed Domain Samurai before

No, that's cool, you're absolutely right, it then just re-directs. The problem I'm finding now actually is when you get there, the auction has already finished, and then they just try to sell you on other domains, either crap ones or ones which cost over a grand!!

Ugh, sorry to hear that. I always wonder whether they ever sell any of the rip-off "Hey, buy these instead" domains.
