SERP is a registered Trade mark? May I register a domain with this keyword?

Hi

I would like to know whether SERP is a registered trademark?

If yes, I don't want to register a domain with this keyword.

If not, I want to proceed.

Let me know.

Any help really would be appreciated.

    If you want to register a trademarked domain there are risks. There is no right or wrong so its a personal choice, there is no one person that can say you should or should'nt.

    Should you decide to register a trademarked domain you should know that the domain could possibly deleted without notice or nothing at all could happen. Your choice.

    You can register the name and use it for years without a problem. However if SERP decides that it wants that name for itself it is not to hard for them to do it. It just depends on what the company want to do, if they care at all.

      What that means is that SERP is not registerable as a trademark. They have no exclusive rights to SERP and no one can.
      This is a common trademark mistake, and it is not correct to assume that no one has such a trademark, or that no one ever can.

      While searching the USPTO is a good start, it is not definitive on trademark issues when it comes to domain registration issues.

      That is because 'common law' trademarks, and trademarks in countries other than the US come into play. Many have lost their domain names due to trademarks that did not appear in a USPTO search.

      Is that a problem? Sure.

      But not one I would worry about. In the typical situation, the person loses their domain knowing they are taking advantage of someone else's name. On the other hand, creating a legitimate website with a good faith reason to use certain words, is quite often all you need to avoid unknown trademark issues.

      Even if there were a company called SERP, SERP is also an acronym for search engine results page, so a generic and legitimate use of the word can be made that has nothing to do with any trademark.
