List Building

by Pointer 12 replies
Hello,

I'm in the process of building a list in my niche, but it's been slow going with getting Opt-ins just from my website. Basically if I get a few per week, I'm doing well.

It seems the quickest way to build my list would be to JV with someone who has a sizable list in my niche. I'm doing affiliate marketing and don't have a product of my own to sell through someone else's list and share profits. I would basically be looking for a JV who would recommend their subscribers opt-in to my list because they'd get "cool stuff" when they do. Are there any ways to JV with list owners in a scenario like this?

Use PPC! You can grow your list pretty dang fast that way.

  • What bait are you using to build your list with? I've found that video and audio gets far more opt ins than reports/newsletters/etc.

I used PPC to get my list started. Now it's growing without having to advertise through word-of-mouth and affiliates.

Let me ask what value are you giving to your subscribers?

Other than just building a list so you can email affiliate offers...are you actually offering any value to your list that would entice them to sign up?

If not, then you may want to work on that.

You will need to start with people with lists of similar size to yours to pull that off.

Any JV you do must be a win-win for both sides, or it won't work.

Thanks for all the replies! Yes, I do have some bait and am offering value for those who sign up to my list. I'm giving away free information that would be of interest to my audience in this niche. The problem is, the traffic to my website and opt-in form is very small, so I don't get many signups.

I figured a JV/email advertising situation would be one of the quickest ways to build my list, but I'm not sure how this would be structured in my situation. Would the list owner be paid per 1000 subscribers my email/ad goes out to (a CPM model), or would I pay per subscriber that I get from their mailing (CPA model), or some other way entirely? What are the common ways to do this?

Garrett and DebraConrad - you mentioned having luck building your list with PPC. Have you found the Content Network to be the best way? Or are you using PPC from Google's Search? Are you plugging Free reports (or something similar) in your ads then to get people to signup?

A JV deal is one method of building your list but if you are doing affiliate marketing, you could try PPC (Pay Per Click). Now of course that would all depend on your niche but here's an example.

In PPC the rule is that usually you don't include the word free in your ppc ad. However, if your goal is to build a list, it would be wise to do so. Lets assume you were in the "weight loss" niche. Here's an example of something you can do:

Run a PPC ad with keywords that are "NOT" so targetted that your ad won't be seen because of high costs (ex..weight loss). I would recommend placing it with "related" keywords (use google keyword tool) so that you can keep you cost down. Have a low enough bid price so that you can let your account go for a few days and see if you get clicks. The purpose here is to see if your offer get clicks.

On you landing page, give some information/content on the subject you chose to write about (example...7 tips to lose 3 pounds this week), and then offer 1-3 free reports if they opt in.

This will give you an idea if what you have is what the market is looking for.

      Hoe that helps

Thanks for the idea for using PPC. I've been using the Content Network, but haven't had any luck with it. I've been getting displays, but very few clicks. The problem with the Content Network is you don't know where the ad is being displayed, which could be at the very bottom of the page where no one sees it.

With using PPC for Search - One way might be to create a few different reports as the incentive to opt-in. Then the keywords and ads would be targeted to each one of those reports. It would also mean I'd need to create separate landing pages for each. I'd just have to find good enough keywords to get enough traffic and to make it all worthwhile.
