Anybody Earning From Free Blog e.g wordpress or blogger?

I suppose it's not necessary, but it seems very foolish not to have your own domain and hosting. If you're looking at building a business -- and blogging can be big business if you're really serious about it -- why would you want to build that business on an unstable foundation? Not that Wordpress.com or Blogger.com are going anywhere, but they can very easily wipe out all of your work if they feel you've somehow abused their terms and conditions of use.

I'm always amazed at people who desire to make substantial amounts of money online but are not willing to invest even small amounts of money. A domain name is $8 a year and you can get hosting for $60 a year ($5 a month). How much cheaper can it possibly be?

I have earned some cash from my blog for a long time, but honestly then decided that internet marketing would bring me more cash and now I am earning from clickbank etc.

To be honest with you I can't even afford the $8 to start up. Im probably the minority but I'm a single mom taking a huge pay cut as it is. I too would love to find out if anyone has found free blogging successful. I do agree that in the long run it's probably crucial to have something more stable but for now is it possible to start out with blogger or another free service?? I really am grateful I've found the forum for it has shown me so much amazing information and inspired me to take the next steps toward something more profitable. I still say it's too bad there isn't a service out there that newbies who cant afford a startup fee can take advantage of by in turn offering something they are good at. Maybe, someone who is capable of writing a compelling article could provide free content for coaching in return. i realize they could just pay for it but you never know someone might be interested in paying it forward. I know once I'm financially stable the first thing I'll be doing is finding others struggling to make it and teach them what has worked for me. I'd love to start a group of experienced professionals interested in paying it forward. Anyway, thanks for asking a questions I've been wondering myself for a long time.

It probably is possible to make money using free blogger or wordpress.For instance maybe through adsense. You must learn skills such as driving traffic. However,as others have said if you don't own your web real estate all your work can be ruined and your business lost because it can be taken away from you in an instant. However, making good money online is achievable but for most people it requires long term effort and commitment.The harsh reality is any business requires some investment otherwise you are really up against it.

You obviously have skills.

One way you might start to make an online income is as follows.Take a good hard look at what your current skills are. Can you the sell any of these to the online community say through this forum or through places like elance or ecoder. Have you got skills that people are prepared to pay you for eg
article writing,proof reading,graphics,design,backlink building,keyword research. You may not make a fortune doing this but start thinking outside the box and you may just find something that you enjoy and creates an online income for your benefit. You can then use the money you make to reinvest in your business.Many other broke marketers have followed this route.

Yes, on blogger you can have adsense (it goes in the same pocket of the big G.) - but no commercial stuff on wordpress.com. Period.

@Nichechic,

There were threads around here describing how to start a blogger blog and earn money with it. Try to find them.

Also, from time to time there are initiatives when more experienced WF members offer free hosting, domain, WR membership, coaching, products etc. for a few newcomers. Watch out for those moments.

  Sorry,I meant to say something more along the lines of maybe you can make money using adsense on blogger. You can also use wordpress.com to do other things such as link to your blogger blog.
  
  Going into actual strategies for making money using link building methodology would have been taking things beyond the scope of this thread.I thought it had already been clearly stated that wordpress.com is non commercial and that you run the risk of having your site withdrawn.

  The main point of my post was really to stress that making money on the net is sometimes difficult and a long process and if you can't afford $8 for hosting its going to be real tough.
  My advice was to suggest earning money using existing skills for which I gave a few examples.
  
  I can assure you intentions were well meant and I apologise for not pointing out more clearly the non commercial nature of wordpress.com. Personally of course I wouldn't go there other than for part of a bigger strategy.I would always pay for hosting.

Use Search here and on Youtube for Squidoo
and while you're on Youtube think about converting your articles into simple videos
plenty of free ways to do that too

The other disadvantage you have of using a free platform like Blogger.com or Wordpress.com is that your promotional efforts will be largely wasted once you move to your own domain. The MINIMUM you should do is get a domain name and redirect it to your Blogger/Wordpress/Blogspot/Whatever URL, so that once you can spring for hosting you can just direct it to your host.

I thought we were all here for the long term. I couldn't think of anything worse than putting all this time and effort in just hoping to make a quick buck and move onto something else. You want your website to make you money on autopilot once it is fully up and running.

My advise to anyone want to get into internet marketing is do it right from the start and that means investing in domains and a good autoresponder. If it is FREE it will only have short term benefits.

Hi,

You can definitely get started using blogger to build a decent income.

Anyone can start making money if they invest their time if they have no money.

Blogger blogs are easy to set up, you can post content that will drip feed, they are easily indexed and they will stay put if you don't violate Google's TOS.

They can be used for Adsense, affiliate sales or CPA offers.

Personally, I would put only one form of monetization at the top of the fold (i.e.) one call to action.

It's easy enough to drive traffic with that old reliable 'article marketing'.

I have a few blogs that I set up when I began almost five years ago that still bring in $100 every couple of months and that was with social bookmarking only (and plr articles that I didn't bother to rewrite).

If anyone needs more help just pm me.

I have found many bloggers who start their blogging career on Blogger.com. For them, they have naby chances to make money by blogging, such as selling links, writing product reviews, etc.

Blogger is also known to suspend or delete certain blogs.

The only way to have full control over your blog is to host it on your own server. That way nobody can close it down just like that, unless you are doing something illegal.

I'm earning from a free blog. I use Blogger. Granted I just set that up to see if I could earn as an affiliate marketer. I am new to the whole thing so I didn't quite know what to expect. Now that I know that I can earn when I set my other two blogs up over the next few weeks I'll have my own domain names. I am still going to use Blogger but self hosted.

You have to work hard and if you want to start with free one the go with blogger because it belongs to google

and your posts will be indexed in a matter of seconds. They allow adsense there so monetization will not be hard. Only work that you have to do is write quality content and drive traffic to your blog along with some link building.

Never think that blogger's blog never rank well. I have seen a blogger's blog on top 10 of search result for make money online niche and I don't have to tell how competitive this niche is.
