Information overload...

This thread my sound like one of those "Beginner here, where do I start" threads. But I am really confused about how this whole IM work at home thing, in my opinion I believe most of it is all hyped up and I feel sorry for the gullible people who buy eBooks for $20+ when there is a wealth of information on the internet for FREE.

I have had past experience with Internet Marketing when a local charity organiser had me doing his web design stuff for his product "Kiss Stress Goodbye", a stress relief eBook that would provide tips to well...relieve stress obviously. He was selling the eBook at $47 and he thought he was going to have up to 500 orders a day. I like to think that I'm in touch with reality and thought this was madness! How can a non-physical object justify a price-tag of $47 when it is only a PDF ebook. It's the same for the other products that I have seen, for example "Traffic Generator 2.0", "If you read this you will be number 1 on Google in 1 minute" and all the other junk out there that costs more than $200. Why do people buy this stuff?

Anyway enough of my little rant.

I have been browsing the forums for the past few months and absorbing the information but I am just overwhelmed by the different methods of making money online.

Affiliate Marketing
What is it? Do you buy a product from someone then using the resell rights you try to sell yourself?

CPA
What's that?

How do people make money from Blogs?
Write about certain subjects and hope people click their ads?

Sorry if I am asking for too much but I would like to get a strong foothold so I can get started myself.

I am a web developer so I am up to date with the latest web technologies and I can put products online etc.

Thanks.

What have I advertised? That eBook that the charity organiser made? And those other books I mentioned where entirely made up.

Sorry for the misunderstanding but I was not trying to plug the products whatsoever.

I didn't even provide a link to them as they don't exist.

I understand where you're coming from. I think too many people view an online business with very unrealistic expectations. Think of it like this: you aren't going for the 'quick, easy' money. You are building a business and of course that's going to take time.

What you really need is an education. There are several places online where you can learn all the skills you need to start your business. Sure, you can learn a lot here too but it's kind of hodge podge. You want one place, think of it as a university, where you can get all your basic online marketing skills.

I recommend two that I've used and found really helpful: Niche Profit Classroom and Auto Content Cash. Prior to these I was going from one thing to another and getting more overwhelmed and frustrated.

        Good luck!

No. Affiliate Marketing is promoting someone else's products for a commission.

    CPA

    What's that?
Cost Per Action. Similar to affiliate marketing. Generally you are paid for generating a lead or a sale, but it's a dollar amount vs. a percentage commission. CPA offers usually have restrictions on how you can promote them (sometimes very stringent), and CPA networks generally have higher barriers to entry than affiliate programs.

There are a number of ways to monetize blogs. It's best to start by picking the topic for your blog, then deciding what monetization models fit best. Don't forget list building and email marketing.

Information overload is common. Do yourself a favor, and find someone with a duplicatable that others have had success with. Follow that system through completely. Even if it doesn't work for you, you've successfully identified something not suited for you. Spreading yourself too thin and investing energy into too many different places is a guarantee for failure.

    • Hi

It's such a common problem, information overload (or paralysis of analysis as I've heard it called), it is always in the top 5 of reasons why individuals aren't more successful in IM.

I have to say a great help for me was when I came across Tony Sheperd and some of the training products he provides (free and paid). He just seems to have a very down to earth and "keep it real style" that appealled to me. Some of the stuff I learnt from him really did allow me to come up with my own strategy for success.

You can see the sort of stuff he produces by visiting: www.kickstartimcourse.com

As I say it is only my opinion, but having some sort of a mentor is the way to get over that initial hump, and although I obviously haven't tried them all, Tony is a good start.

Whichever route you take, I wish you all the very best.

      regards
      Andy

I like how the OP bags on IMers for buying courses or guides when there is sooOOOOoooo much information out there on the internet, yet the OP does not understand the most basic IM concepts such as CPA, Affiliate marketing and blog monetization which are easily picked up and understood after a few minutes on google or in the warrior forum.

So how is not being one of those gullible people working out?

Thanks for all of your replies.

I think I am going to do a brainstorm for some product ideas.

    I am thinking this:

Advertise my product through Forums/Social Sites and some general SEO
Capture emails and building a list by offering something for free
    Sell the product
Use my list to sell more things

Be good to see how that goes.

that's a great, general, plan. creating your own product is a great way to earn money online...

you should take a look around and read up on as much as you can. and use the search tool. you said you don't understand why people buy those ebooks when there is so much free information, if you only bother to do research....and yet you make a thread and openly ask what CPA is and Affiliate marketing is.. and so on...

at least for now..i hope you don't create IM products. and you said yourself that gullible people buy ebooks...if you really believe that, then i would have to question your ethics in trying to create a product... you will be marketing to the same people...

... just realized i may sound rude.... I'm sorry for that.. and didn't mean that at all... i just hope you wont create products just to take advantage of the less informed. and make products what we can all benefit from.

hope you much luck in your endeavors

      Ryan,

Let's go back to SQUARE ONE.

      What do you want?

Can you answer that question? In detail?

Don't start brainstorming until you CAN answer the question. If you do what you are thinking of doing, you are DOOMED. It won't work. Although, there will be a Warrior or two who pops up and says, "great plan". No, it isn't. It won't be a "good way to see how it goes", it will cost you precious time and money.

The reason it isn't a good plan is this: it is all about something nebulous, making money.

Sure the WF is about "making money" by Internet Marketing, but as Information Overload has shown you, there are a myriad of ways to go about it.

But you are putting the cart before the horse, you're looking for the How to BEFORE you know the WHY?

The WHY should come first IF you want to expedite your success. Having a real reason, other than just making more money, will help to motivate you, keep you on track and is a good screening tool for preventing you going off track.

Also, almost every successful marketer will tell you to find MARKETS first (not all) but most will say or talk about Niches/passion indexes, people with a hunger...

Find them first BEFORE you develop a product.

There are literally millions of people who have developed a product and can't sell it...and YOU are going to use the very worst possible way to market, at forums? And Social media? it ain't gonna work.

Now this is just my opinion, but, since today there seems to be a lot of noobs asking the same or simlar questions about HOW to get started and overcome Information Overload...

then here is the short and sweet version:

WRITE down a one year plan of action which will take you to the goal of ________

Which means you have to start at the ENDING...What is the result you want? Then and only then can you possibly construct a plan to get there.

But without a destination, you'll wander the desert of IM searching for an Oasis all the while getting exhausted at finding mirages.

      gjabiz

I killed information overload by doing step-by-step analysis of whatever I read concerning IM.

Our minds are often seconds to weeks ahead of where we are. Being present is a lost art.

When I began reading things line-by-line, digesting each word I understood IM principles and could easily apply what I learned.

Information overload is merely your mind moving in 6000 directions at once, all in the future. Take your time, do things step-by-step.
