Where Else Can I buy a Domain Name - OTHER THAN GODADDY?

Hey. Looking for a good place to buy a domain name. I don't understand the terms that GoDaddy has given me. Maybe I will try somewhere else... but where is the best place... because I only know of GoDaddy. Thanks.

I started out with Name.com because they let you use your PayPal balance to pay without adding a credit card to your account back when I didn't have one. They offer good service and make it easy for beginners.

Why? I wouldn't use the hosting but it's fine for domains - pay with paypal, auto-renew, privacy if you want it.

With almost ANY domain register its a FREE PUSH to someone who has an account with the same register...even after 60 days to transfer out no biggie...1&1 to move your domain requires a fax, your DL or ID faxed to them, personal info and MIND you this is only to transfer away......they are ruthless and sorry customer suport does not know its ass from its own head...

What? I have 60 domains at 1and1. I've personally moved over 15 to GoDaddy. And then I moved them back again later!

Never had to do any of that. Just click one link to authorize.

I completely recommend 1and1. I have 60+ domains there for over 5 years. Free privacy FOR LIFE. And they use auto-renew with credit cards. Namecheap does not.

BlueHost.com, sign up for a one year hosting account, get a free domain. You can host an unlimited number of domains on your account. I would never use any other hosting service.

I use 1 and 1. I've never had any problem with them for just the domain name. Plus, every now and then they run a special where you can get a free domain name. I have used GoDaddy, haven't had any problem with them for domains.

I used to buy domains through NetFirms, they regularly offer discount coupons, that's the pro using them. But their admin navigation is not easy to use and the loading is slow every time I need to set up dns server and stuff like that. Since I switched to namecheap, I'm a very happy girl. I'll stay with Namecheap very very long. That's for sure. I don't like Godaddy's multiple up-sell process either.

Oh yes, that's another "advantage" of using Namecheap. Does Godaddy offer free whois guard (for the first year) as well? Not sure about that.

What these posts have in common? - They are all wrong.

Try to avoid having the same company as your (domain) registrar and your host.

Istavan is absolutely correct. Always have your domain at a registrar not related with your hosting account. If the hosting goes wonky, you can point your domain to a new host quickly. If your hosting company also has control of your domain, you're dead in the water.

You need to have couple of places for your domains if you have any sizeable number of domain holdings.

There have been many horror stories with couple of IMers losing all their domains due to technical malfunctions etc.

That said, GoDaddy has great customer support, but their services tend to be very expensive. I've tried many of then, and the best I like is NameCheap and DomainSite.

One great advantage of name.com is free privacy, not just the initial year, but, even for renewals. You may not use it for all your sites, but, if you do, it can be a great savings over time.

I buy all my Domains with 1and1.com I have a few thousand with them and they are super cheap, like $8.99 per year for a .com and everything is included, and that means private registration aswell.

There hosting stuff is pretty decent but there are better options, DNS transfer of the domains usually happen the same day,

The beauty of 1and1.com is that they are huge, and it would be very hard for Google to go in and check the registry data for each domain, unless you really give them reason to, it would be damn near impossible for google to link multiple accounts together...

They also have sales all the time on crap TLD's like .info , .us, etc for like 99 cents for a year...

    I loathe GoDaddy...

I really LOVE Domain Name Registration, Web Hosting, SSL Certificates, and more. - Dynadot.com because they give you the option to return the domain (say, if you've made a research mistake or something like that) within 120 hours for a credit. Also, they are very user-friendly and honestly I have bought hundreds of domains through them and never had one problem.

fabulous.com hasn't been mentioned here. It's more for professional domainers since I believe you need at least a few hundred domains in their account. Either you can buy a few hundred at once or you can transfer over your names.

My friend has an account there and he says they're one of the best. I'm hoping I can reach my income level goals and get an account there soon.
