.co domain names, what do you think of the potential?

.co domains have now been released to the public. Do you think this domain extension will catch on or fade away?

I tried to pre-register 8 of them and 7 went to auction. I did pickup mortgagerefinancing.co though and am not sure if I will build a large authority site with it or simply flip the domain. What kind of value do you think the premium keywords have with a .co extension?

    .CO is a sucker's bet.
It is not going to fade away but in 1 year lots of them will end in cancellations.

I think the biggest benefit to buying up .co names is to get some typo traffic. I can't tell you how many times a day I type .co instead of .com.

I just searched ebay for .co domain names and saw some interesting results. People are listing them with $x,xxx, xxx BIN prices but if you go to the completed auctions the most one has sold for is $39. I'll throw up a CPA landing page and see if I get any type-in traffic. I just might build a huge site and go for "mortgage refinancing" in google because if I can get it in the top 5 it would make a killing. Competition is fierce though.

Good luck - you should post your results here!

    Good catch Wyomble ....

.Co resembles of a company name domain extension & build a better image is the site contains this extension but this name is attached with the Republic of Colombia.

Administered by a business venture specialists, it shows their interest in different internet services.

It has been assigned to the public interest & is totally promoted by telecommunications where assigning .Co to different second level domain names can generate millions of revenue.

I think it has great potential for domain registrars. Others have or not have but registrars do have great earning potentials!!

Look the .co stands for Columbia. It is going to go down in Google with the same value as .info or .tv which means there is no reason why you can't build a site from it BUT it will probably be worthless in terms of any sort of rankings boost for the eact match phrase.

      Some pessimistic kids here :-)

The .co in time, should behave great, has “jeux ne se qua” that .org and .info never had.

Any who, only time will tell... so lets wait 5 years or so and talk then.

I can now officially say that you are completely incorrect. Webmaster tools settings for .co domains now has capability to geo-target .co domains. Same as with .com, .net and .org. Is no longer a Colombian extension.

      Google on the bolded terms...

This does beg the question, have you ever searched for info on Noam Chomsky? How about regular expressions, roman coins or craft ideas? Maybe you've never needed to do some research to find out if New York was a sanctuary city or to find out something about New York transit. Oh, and have you thought about moving your money to a local bank before you go shopping on Black Friday?

I bought a keyword .co. Within days it has overrode the actual .com (it sits as a parking page) It's ranked and gets type in traffic typo traffic.

I slapped a site on there and it seems to be doing well. I don't think names that would be considered worthless even in a .com setting

freecache, those could be good names? Are there any sites on the .com's? Anything worth throwing a site, pushing traffic.

Where to sell these names? Well, you could write up a summary on why this name may be beneficial and push the name to some end users. You can also call them, or you can hit up Craigslist, EBay, Flippa and some business forums to look for potential buyers.

Its a great extension and I firmly believe it will take a launch in the right direction.

When you type in the browser w w w . example . co then immediately will go to the w w w . example . c o m, and that isn't good for who has the .co extension.
But, if you have a business and want to protect it, then go for it and buy the .co domain.

I think google has a different approach.
Since getting an extension is a rather easy process, google can't allow if something goes quiet to rank high.

It's reasonable to only check for major ones and if it's not within that list (com biz org net) than deduct points or what ever system they use.
