Should I include the word "the" in my domain?

Hi Warriors,

I'm going to buy a new domain for an affiliate review site to be created. The main domain of the affiliate product I'll be reviewing does not have the word "the" although the name of the product has the word "the."

If I'm going to get a domain name, do you recommend I get the one with the word "the" or without it? My purpose is to rank high for the name of this product.

Thanks,
Michael

  • The is one of many common words that Google ignores and it's use should make no difference to your ability to rank

    • I always use the word 'The' if I cannot get the dot com domain name. For example: waterfeatureexpert.com would be thewaterfeatureexpert.com

It doesn't affect ranking at all.

  • You can skip the word THE - does not make much of a difference.

    • They are correct. It doesn't help you rank if you include it or not. Id rather include hyphens in my domain if I were to buy a domain to do affiliate marketing. For example, PLRContentRiches.com, if I want to promote it, I can buy PLR-Content-Riches.com.

      Hope this helps.
  • Hi,

I agree. You don’t need to include the word “the” These types of words are ignored.

    Thanks

  • If it makes sense in the domain, or it's the domain is unavailable without 'the' in it - go for it. 'The' will not effect how well you rank, however having the main keywords of your product certainly will.
  • as said, it won't affect your ranking. but sometimes it may be more instinctive for visitors if you include the 'the'

consider these two words: exorcist, godfather

If I say "the exorcist" or "the godfather", I think you'll first think about the two movies. did you think the same without the 'the'?
  • Great Point dika,
If I saw "godfather" I would first think it was "Godfather's Pizza"

Don't ruin a good name just because it is already taken.
keep writing down more choices until something else pops up.
  • I would use the Google Keyword Tool and see if it is searched more often with "the" or without and then choose accordingly....
