Big News-Not Everybody is a Flippin' Marketer!!!
More and more people are discussing how difficult it is to succeed in this industry, because of just how many people are in this field competing.
There are millions of websites so how can my little site make it?
There are millions of internet marketers doing exactly what I do, so how can I succeed.
There is no way I can make money online, because everyone else took all of the opportunities!
What I find even worse is the experienced marketers that come on the forums and state things like "that sales copy or set-up will not work because I DO NOT like long text, videos, exit pop-ups etc etc".
We are not the majority guys....
I have noticed all over most internet marketing forums that alot of people are using this type of stuff as an excuse. They feel that because there are SO MANY webmasters, affiliate marketers, and so on out there that it is impossible or incredbily difficult to break into this industry or field.
I call BS.
And I am even going to take it a step further.
What has happened in many ways is that we have often become a very secluded group of people. We bounce our ideas off of each other, ask questions to each other, share opinions and answers with each other.....but we forget one very important factor:
We are marketers, and there are millions of straight up consumers out there that have no idea what we are talking about, what we do, and how we do it....and they could actually care less.
Let me start this off with a little bit of a story.
I booked it over to the nearby coffee shop for a tuna melt today on my lunch break. I wasnt even hungry, just bored I guess and needed to get up and out of my computer chair. (which is broken and uncomfortable..in case you care)
I ordered my sandwich and then just leaned against the wall and did what I usually do when Im out in public.
I listened.
I noticed to my left these two 30 something year olds eating lunch.
They had their laptops out, all kinds of papers, and so on.
After listening for a bit I realized that they were investment bankers. Educated adults, most likely quite successful at what they do, expensive clothes etc etc.
Then their conversation broke from banking and into something more personal.
One of them had a brilliant idea and he wanted to bring his friend in on it.
(yes I eavesdropped....dont talk openly about your ideas in a public coffee shop if you dont want anyone to listen btw)
After a long spiel about how good this idea was, how they could make a great business plan from it, and how NO ONE is doing it right now...
One of them finally spilled the beans:
"We study how to use facebook and twitter as a social media outlet. We can then create a course on how big businesses can use those websites to promote their brand and then sell the course to major companies".
My jaw dropped on the floor, and I expected the other member of the conversation to reach over and slap they guy and call him an idiot.
Instead...he praised the idea.
The two of them discussed how they had no idea how to use twitter or facebook...but that no one does.
And that NO ONE is using those sites to market properly, and that they can be the first ones to make such a course and teach people how to use those sites.
These guys have no idea what warrior forum is, they dont know that internet marketers even exist, and they sure as heck could care less if they came across a product that they wanted that had long sales copy.
In many ways guys...THESE are the people that make up our target market.
Is this an extreme example? Absolutely.
Is this type of naive misconception common among everyone? Of course not.
But if you think this type of situation or their thought process is an isolated situation...I really think you have to step back and look at the bigger picture.
Not everyone is a marketer, and not everyone thinks, acts, shops, or analyzes things the way that we do.
Not everyone is going to close your page because the video auto-played, not everyone is going to scroll down to the PPPPPPPS part to analyze your final words, and not everyone is going to analyze your site and product pitch down to every, last, minute detail.
They may just want your product, and buy it. Sounds almost too simple for us sometimes, doesnt it?
I guess you could tie this into the idea that you MUST do testing before deciding on how, why, or when a campaign will work.
Simply coming onto this forum, or any other forum, or even just having a mastermind meeting between your marketing friends is not enough.
The fact is that WE do not think or act like the majority of people.
Think about how many times on this forum you have heard people say
"well I hate long sales pages, and those exit pop up ads that offer a discount are such crap. I usually close a sales page just to see if there is a discount before reading it".
Guess what?
That ain't normal.
The majority of the people that we are trying to sell to do not read sales pages so critically, do not care about the things that we care about, and and dont even realize the effort, testing, process that goes into making your landing page, sales copy, website, blog, etc.
Is that a bit of a blanket statement? Absolutely.
If you sell software, wso's, or other marketing stuff then you need to understand how internet marketers think...because they ARE your target market.
I just think it is necessary to point out that this isnt always the case.
Maybe I jumped all over the place within this thread, but I really wanted to discuss these points.
Let's not forget that competition is a good thing.
Let's not forget that rarely is there any market that is too saturated.
Let's not forget that there is FAR more competition in other businesses and industries than ours in many ways.
And Let's not forget to look OUTSIDE of ourselves and our community for input, examples, and opportunity.
Just because a marketing guru or the hordes of warriors on this forum tell you that your sales page, idea, thought process will not work..
doesnt make it so.
Find your target market, ask them the right questions, get their input, and design your idea and sell to them. Then come back to places like this and ask for input.
If you have a product that cures athlete's foot..dont JUST test it on me or the expert warriors.
Test on the people that are strugglign with athlete's foot.
I have more to say...but Im out....
