I am new to IM, so please bear with me.
Recently I bought banneradblueprint and one of their bonuses was the creation of a website, as long as I used Host Jester. After signing up and doing more research, I have found a much more less expensive Hosting site. I would like to transfer my domain hosted by Host Jester and get a refund from them as I don't want their services as a hosting site. Below is a copy of the reply from Host Jester support.

Hi,
Thanks for your email.
As you are the legal owner of the domain we are unable to provide a refund for your purchase.
We do not provide refunds because of the fact you have purchased a legally binding asset in the domain name and we cannot take ownership of that.
The good news is that you can use this hosting account for the next 12 months without spending any further money.
Best wishes,
Pat Kennedy

My question is are they correct and so I am stuck with them?
Thanks in advance.

As far as I know you can't get refunds on hosting.

Yes - you registered a domain name for a specified period of time. It's yours and domains are not refundable that I've ever heard of. You can't move it to another domain seller for 60 days after registration.

First thing to learn online is that changing your mind doesn't always mean you get your money back. Not everything is refundable.

However, the email seems to indicate you have already paid for a year of hosting - so use it at least for a few months until you know more about how to handle sites and hosting.

Next time you are tempted by an offer - remember the time to research is before you buy, not after.

Just another domain/hosting deal that you can't get out of. I urge everyone to stay away from these type of deals. It's often a ripoff or at the very least, a bad deal that will cost you more money than you need to have spent or be very difficult to get out of.

    Hi Frodo

Do they offer a refund on their website, if so they should honor it, did you check their TOS before purchasing.

Also if you bought your domain through them, then you can't realistically expect them to give you a refund on this.

    Hey frodo,

It's fair enough not to refund the domain - it's out of their control. No other registrars offer a refund as far as I know.

As for the hosting, I can see why you're annoyed but if you're not sure about what your doing, a month by month plan would be more suitable so you can cancel at any time.

You should chalk this up as an experience and turn it into a positive. Use the fact that you now have a years hosting to take action and really make a go of it. It could be a great thing that you can't get out of it

Its not like you got ripped off, you still have perfectly good hosting and a domain that you can use.

Actually, Godaddy offers a 5 day grace period. I just received a $200 refund today for domains I registered and then deleted for refund. A lot of people bash Godaddy, but I've never had a problem with them of any kind for domain registration and I like the fact that I can return the domains within 5 days if I change my mind about them.

Just to make it clear: you bought TWO [2] things, even if you were not aware of it.
    1. Domain registration (never refundable but it should be only $9-35/year)
    2. Hosting services - the price vary from $1/month to $10/mo... and up

You should never ever buy these two things from the same company!
Domains from registrars (namecheap.com, name.com) and hosting from reputable hosting companies.

I guess they do have a point that you are getting a free domain name. If everyone took a domain name and then refunded they'd be out of business.

Not claiming you would but if that was known others would follow the suit.

Some host do have 45 days or 60 days money back guarantee but technically you purchased it and if there isnt' any mention of this from the contract you might have to stick it out there.

I agree with you, if that was the case then everyone would be doing the same thing. Take your time before purchasing anything online next time!

Yeah ... I think it's a bad idea to get involved with Free Domain offers combined with hosting. I never have my domains registered where I host. Always keep the two separated so that you are in complete control of both the domain and the hosting. You can terminate hosting without affecting or risking losing the domain.

Well the domain name is yours whether you want it or not. You could try selling it to someone else.

I have never used Host Jester but, I am very happy with www.mattieblazehosting.com . It is a site that a lot of professionals use. You might want to check this site out.

You don't get refunds on hosting, unless they allow you to. Move on and find a new one. And next time, be sure before signing up for any hosting. I would recommend Web Hosting Services, Reseller Hosting, and Dedicated Servers by HostGator - cheap and best to start with. Very reliable.
