Just a reminder...

I'm amazed out how many newsletters I've signed up for that end up in the spam bucket of my email client. Periodically I go in the Spam area and make sure anything I signed up to get is marked "Not Spam".

I do this even if I wish to unsubscribe later. It's only fair, I did sign up for it and should unsub correctly if I no longer wish it to come. The frustrating part is all the good things I missed because they got swallowed by the spam bucket. Seminars, videos, one time or limited time offers, etc.

  • yeah I've noticed this before too, but I have a hard time digging through the thousands of emails that hit my spam box in gmail every month - but good point, if you're subscribing, don't categorize it spam, it is only fair
  • It hurts them in some way if you categorize their emails as spam am I right?

    • Yeah... some cry, some get depressed. It's really sad.

      That is a good question however. It hurts them if their message is in the spam bucket due to some email client's rules because it is not seen. If someone reports them as spam however it does a lot of damage. That often gets reported back to their sending service or provider and too many of those and their account could be terminated.

    Good point about checking the trash. You never know what ends up in there. I've basically un-subbed to all the "big namer" lists I was on, but I am still on some of the lesser-known (though extremely valuable and less "junky") lists of some guys whose messages I always want to read no matter what.
  • That really is a shame.

    I am using Gmail as well but it works differently for me. I get some spam messages in my inbox so I mark it as spam. But I always get the messages of those people who I have signed up for. Never really went through the trouble of going through my spam folder. Maybe it is because I use my email quite a lot in my work that I get so many of those proposals and "help. need money" kind of emails.
  • Most of us also use an alternative email address.
    If not accessed for a while the huge list of unanswered emails
    may seem like Dumpster Diving to find that Golden Needle in the haystack.
    But was there any Gold in the first place?
    Isn't that why we have an alternative address for junk? :rolleyes:
