Why did I go from 2 sales a week to no sales in a full week?

I found a good little product and niche..

Found 6 key words, wrote articles around them...

Averaged 2 sales or more a week, 3 weeks in a row! Was siked as hell!

This last week, no sales. I am even getting more clicks then I ever have but now there's fewer order form impression counts and sales..

Anyone else ever have this Happen??

  • Yes,

It's happened to me a few times before, but I found that for some products, they strangely have a seasonal trend.

Like for one of the products I promote, it seems that sales go up towards the end of the month and sales go down in the middle of the month.

Also, there may be more clicks but those clicks might be coming from the same people. Did you track your traffic to see whether it has gone down? Or maybe you dropped in the search engine rankings if you are using SEO? Or there might be another competitor in the same niche that has appeared and is promoting a better product than you. These are some of the other things that have happened to me before.

But it may be just an unlucky week, and sales will go back up the next week...

With only 2 sales a week, your standard deviation is going to be very high.

In other words, you can expect to see sales stats like 2 sales one week, then 0, then 3, then 1, then 2, etc.

It's unbelievable how much needless stress and anxiety we internet marketers heap upon ourselves by not having a basic understanding of statistics (I used to be guilty of this as well...)

      This.

It is perfectly normal to experience fluctuations in stats like that.

Just keep doing what you have been doing to generate those 2 sales a week. You are going to have good and bad weeks. 3 weeks of sales is not even close to long enough to determine whats going to happen next week.

The first question I have is what's the source of your traffic? Second, how many click-thru's has it been since your last sale?

Hopefully I understand your questions correctly.

-My source of traffic is in google from Ezine, article base, and buzzle articles.
-It's been about 150 clicks since my last sale...

Not near enough. You won't establish a consistent conversion rate until about 100 sales and/or 5000 visits to be sure. People will tell you different numbers, but for me, that's been a good "rule of thumb".

That's just not enough clicks. There are far too many variables involved to be able to gauge whether or not a marketing campaign is working after only a couple hundred click-thrus. Not the least of which is traffic quality, and the competency of your marketing materials. I always tell my clients, wait until you've received a minimum of 1000-2000 click-thru's, before you make any adjustments.

Here's why: It's possible you might not get a single sale in the first 100-200 click-thru's. But in the next 100-200 click-thru's, you could get 10 sales. That's marketing. You just never know in which batch of hundreds those sales are going to be in. Again, assuming everything else is in order. That's why it's important not to overreact.

In my experienced I have no sales in a week, until I changed my strategy by seeing the most demand of the month. Most people also find the quality assurance of what you are introducing.

Did you check the clicks or the impressions you were getting. Did that change?

Are those on your site or article directories? If it's your site google might have readjust the ranking as they do with new sites which usually end up high for the first weeks until it gets to settle into it's real position.

It's perfectly normal. I've been selling my own products since 2002. Some weeks I make $750. Other weeks I make $0. I have no idea why. All I can think is that there is some sort of collective thing that makes people buy my products in certain weeks [I sell developer tools used at the end of the project so I guess there is a big rush before major holidays etc.].
