Twitter - What's The Money Making Deal?

OK we all know what Twitter is but I would really like to know how do you actually make money from it. There are so many claims that people have made hundreds and thousands of dollars on Twitter. Is this hype or can you really make money tweeting?

    Twitter is really make money when you had reputation and good followers list. Some people have more 10k of followers but most of them is inactive or just marketer like us, so we can not sell or lead something for them. Even 1000 followers can work if they are real customers.
    Some step you can do:
    -Build your follow list day by day.
    -Tweet useful things.
    -Make a connect with your network.
    -Do not give up because not get anything from Twitter.
    -This will take few months or a years to build this.

      The previous poster had some good points. Twitter has been taken over by other marketers. Strategies are still being developed for monetizing this source of traffic.

      From what I've seen, many of the larger lists are developed by those who seem happy to follow anyone who follows them - in other words, quantity rather than quality.

      If you take the time to build a quality list of followers - those who are interested in the messages you send and not just using software to run their accounts on autopilot, then you stand a better chance of readers responding to what you send.

      Also allow time for respect and credibility to be established. When readers expect interesting content from you they will respond more readily to your commercial messages.

      I also see value in using Twitter also as a source of opt-ins, allowing you to followup with email messages.
