Help: the nuts and bolt of creating a virtual classroom with WP.

I have an answers site built on wordpress, that I would like to extend and monetize. I am thinking of offering tools that tutors would use to offer live lessons to the targeted traffic that are already right on spot.

So this is how I want the service to function: tutors subscribe, and I provide them with a virtual classroom. They get a dashboard, a user profile and a page, pretty much in the same way that classipress works. (With classipress the user posts an ad and gets a page that has his ad, pictures, google maps, link to his profile, and contact form.) For my idea, that page would be the subscriber's virtual classroom, in which they could conduct their lessons at the times they choose. I'm figuring a white board, some audio and a chat plugin could pretty much provide that functionality.

This is something I would outsource. Now, I'm not too sure how big a project this is (how long it would take and how much it would cost) and whether or not it can work from a technical point of view, any takes on this? I'm not keen on multi-user for this, but I would use it if there where no other options. Also, I'm not wedded to wordpress (just enamored ), so I am willing to have it built on another platform, create a subdomain, and link to the main site from there. I would really appreciate your thoughts, what plugins already exist that could do this? Would it mostly be a matter of assembling a bunch of plugins?
