What software/programs are typically used to create the effects
and final version of a vid like this:

We're also interested in hiring a vid pro to create a similar style vid.

PM if interested, along with a link to your samples.

Thanks,

More than likely something like that is being done via After Effects or FCP. Even though I have a degree in video production all my work is shooting and not editing.

It might have been made with a video program called Sony Vegas Pro. I'd look there first. If you want to purchase this excellent program you might want to look first on EBay.

  • I have no idea what's being used to edit that video, but that's some serious edition skills there and hiring someone to create a video of that level will cost you a nifty fee.

From what I've seen in the video, I can probably duplicate all of that in Sony Vegas. Great video software.

You can do all of those effects in a lot of different programs. After Effects, Final Cut Pro, Motion, Adobe Premiere, and Sony Vegas to name a few. If it was I who was doing it, I'd use after effects to do all the compositing and effects, and then use Final Cut to edit it all together. After effects is terrible with audio and also timing everything up. That's exactly what Final Cut is good at (among other things) so that's why I'd use that. Then either use Final Cut's export option or maybe Compressor to make a file. Is any of that confusing? Feel free to ask if you have any questions.

You are looking at a good chunk of money. When I was editing corporate videos we would charge anywhere from 95-125.00 an hour. And that's not creating the effects. That would be 95.00 an hour on top of that. What you need to do is find somebody that can do both graphics and editing or you might have a tough time. Try to find a college (or possibly high school) kid that knows this stuff, you might be able to get him really cheap. Post an ad on craigslist or elance(dot)com. If you do post an ad you may also mention they are knowledgable in certain programs. For example final cut, after effects, Sony Vegas. If you go this route my opinion would be to NOT look for people who are good with Sony Vegas. I am biased. I like Final Cut and don't like Sony Vegas. Does that have anything to do with people that are good with Sony Vegas, no, but I've noticed that there are more people using Final Cut which means you might be able to get somebody that's good at that faster than somebody using Vegas.
