"You cant reach OFFLINE businesses ONLINE"! It's a fact

I think the title of this post says a thousand words.

Why is cold calling, or direct mail prospecting to offline clients important to web developers?

Because their market very simply "does not exist" online...

You cannot reach somebody who is not there... no matter how nice your website is or how well it ranks, you have to go where they are.

Does offline marketing work?

Aside from the fact that it has for millions of years... it doesnt really matter if it works or not, because its the ONLY way to your market, so you HAVE to do it... or hire someone else to.

Just had to say that... I know it is stating the obvious, but maybe this puts a twist on the concept that wakes up some people who dont understand, and keep them from what we call in Arkansas "runnin deer", thats when a coon dog is no good for hunting because it keeps running off chasing deer....

Well plenty of regular business folks respond to CL web dev ads in my area so I have not had to cold call.

A small percentage of the market that is available Im sure. Yes, there are exceptions... you will get "some". The majority you will not.

Still, I'd bet an average telemarketer can pull more sales than a CL ad... pound for pound... or even a google ad for that matter.

I was just having a similar conversation today.

I agree that a lot of small ma and pa shops owners know nothing about the internet. That is why they need us. But that is also why they are not actively looking for our sites, because they don't know how.

If they know a little, they will head to Craigslist as that is what they heard or all they know of.

That is why IMHO calling, sending flyers, or better yet, an actual salesman will gather more leads that waiting for people to just show up to your site and inquire.

You can send them to your website via advertising or conversation, but some form of contact needs to be implemented first to get them there.
